With reference to the subject mentioned above, it is hereby notified that following participating
University has been included in the e-prospectus of M.Sc. Biotechnology as given under:

33. Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai (25 seats) *

Madurai Kamaraj University was started as Madurai University at 1965. It is a statutory University, funded
by the Government of Tamilnadu and the University Grants Commission. This University is one of the fifteen
universities in India with a status of University with Potential for Excellence. The M.Sc Biotechnology programme
is a two year (4 semesters) course offered by the School of Biotechnology (SBT) based on Choice Based Credit
System (CBCS) of Madurai Kamaraj University. The Course comprises core and elective papers to impart the
knowledge on basic and applied aspects of biotechnology. The uniqueness of this programme is that the
students have the freedom to have option to select Soft Skill Course offered by other Schools of Science and
Language in two levels (basic & advanced) to empower the students for effective communication, personality and
professional competency through effective teaching and learning. The SBT which offer this course has three core
Departments (Department of Genetic Engineering, Department of Molecular Microbiology and Department of
Plant Biotechnology) with two centres (Centre for Excellence in Bioinformatics, Centre for Excellence in
Innovative Biotechnology) being supported by DBT.

A team of 12 faculty members with wide range of experiences in different fields of biotechnology with
adequate exposure from National and International laboratories are the added values to this programme. Besides
the core faculty, the expertise from School of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics are being
utilized for the teaching program. The curriculum for M.Sc Biotechnology is value added with economics and
social sciences by involving the experienced faculty. The School facilitates summer project in Biotech companies,
National Laboratories and other Premier Institutions in India for 6 weeks for the interested students after the
completion of II semester. The School also facilitates campus Interview upon the need and request of the biotech
companies. Imparting training to the students for hands on experience in research through intensive practical
classes and project works are the key strength of this School as evidenced by placement of considerable number
of students at National and International Institutes/Universities leading to Ph.D degree. Many alumni of this
course were able to clear several competitive exams like CSIR-UGC NET, DBT JRF, GATE etc.

The School has all the necessary major facilities for diverse research programmes in the areas of microbial,
animal and plant biotechnology.
