Ferdinand Magellan - Fernão de Magalhães, was a

Portuguese explorer.

He was the first to discover a westward route from Europe to Asia.

In 1518, he convinced Charles V that he could find a shorter way to Maluku by sailing westward
via the Americans. Thus began “the greatest of all epics of human discovery” when he sailed
from Sanlucar, Spain, in 1519, on board five very antiquated ships with a crew of 235 men.

He was the first European to reach the Philippine archipelago.

He sailed around the southern tip of South America, across the vast Pacific Ocean after 98 days
of sailing northwestward. Magellan finally reached the Philippines on March 17,1521. In
Mactan, he was defeated and killed in the battle in April 1521 as a consequence of his
intervention in a dispute between Lapulapu and Zula, chieftains of mactan.

His expedition provided empirical evidence of the spherical shape of the earth
The Magellan-Elcano circumnavigation of the globe provided empirical evidence that the earth
was spherical. It also proved that the earth was round.
Marcelo H Del Pilar
Marcelo H.Del Pilar, whose pen name is Plaridel, an anagram of his surname, is
one of the citizens that make the province of Bulacan proud. Plaridel
established the first Philippine bilingual newspaper, Diariong Tagalog in 1882
to publish observations and criticisms on how the Spanish government in the
Philippines was run. He was the fearless propagandist who took over La
Solidaridad, a quarterly political publication initially edited by Graciano Lopez
Jaena, that elicited a nationalistic spirit among Filipino ilustrados against
Spanish imperialism. His writings inspired the Philippine revolution.
Lapulapu

Lapulapu was a ruler of Mactan in the Visayas.

He is the first Filipino to refuse to bow under Spanish yoke.

Lapu-Lapu is known to be the first Filipino hero who fought and won against the Spanish
colonization yet just like many other Filipino heroes who fought vigorously for our freedom, he
is given a little regard. Most of us only knew him as one of the Datus of Mactan in the Visayas
who killed the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during the battle of Mactan in April 27,
1521 wherein the heavily armed Spaniards (with lances, swords, crossbows, and muskets) were
defeated by Lapu-lapu’s warriors armed with iron swords, bows, and “bamboo” spears.
JOSE RIZAL

Jose Rizal was a Filipino nationalist and polymath during the tail end of the Spanish colonial
period of the Philippines. Jose Rizal wrote El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere, which paved
the way for a Filipino uprising against Spain. His novels and writing are the only which opened
the eyesof all Filipino and gave them the braveness to strive against. He sacrificed his life for
the freedom of our country and became a good example of true nationalism. That’s the reason
why he is the greatest Filipino hero ever lived. He is great because he never used force in
fighting the colonists, he used his knowledge and wisdom to fight them and let them know his
feelings.
