DISCUSSION

Tenses in English means time (time). The word tenses means a verb or set of words used to
express a time relationship. In grammar, tenses are categories that place the situation in time, to
indicate when the situation is in progress. The basic Indonesian word sequence is similar to English.
Generally, sentences begin with a subject, followed by a verb (also called a predicate), and then an
object. Indicating past or future forms requires only inserting words that indicate time, in a very
organized system.

2.1.TYPES OF TENSES

A. Simple present tense

In English Present Tense or Simple Present Tense is used to declare events or events,
activities, activities and so on at this time. Present Tense is also used to declare a Fact, or something
that happens over and over again at the present time. Remember, PRESENT is now, now.

The formula:
(+): S + V1 (s / es)
(-): S + DO / NO + NO + V1
(?): DO / DOES + S + V1

Example :
(+) She drinks coffe.
(-) She does not drink coffee.
(?) Does She drink coffee?

B. Present Continous Tense

The Present Continuous Tense is used to declare something that is happening right now,
currently in progress.

The formula:
(+): S + Tobe + Verb + ing
(-): S + Tobe + Not + Verb + Ing
(?): Tobe + S + Verb + ing

Example:
(+) I am writing now.
(-) I am not writing now.
(?) Are you writing now?

2
C. Simple Future Tense

Future Tense or Simple Future Tense is used to state events that will Happen. Future tense is
about Later. Something he says Future is "The Future". Therefore in Future Tense the use of Will,
Shall which means will surely dominate. Still remember the division of Tenses in the outline right?
there are 3 major Tenses namely: Past, Present and Future (Formerly, Now, Later). Every Future must
use WILL or SHALL, it means WILL. But there is also a Past Future Tense later. Because Past then
Will and Shall use past also also "Would", later we learn more in Past Future Tense. Oh yes, after Will
or Shall or Would must have followed the form of either a verb or a verb help.

The Formula:
(+): S + will + V1
(-): S + will + not + V1
(?): Will + S + V1

Example:
(+) They will visit Tokyo.
(-) They will not visit Tokyo.
(?) Will They visit Tokyo?

D. Future Continous Tense

This one Tense speaks of an event that is "Being Happened" as well as the Present Continuous
Tense, but the difference in the Future Continuous Tense then the "Medium" it is not now but
tomorrow, will come, later.

The Formula:

(+): S + will + be + Ving

(-): S + will not + be + Ving

(?): Will + S + be + Ving

Example:

(+) You will be going to school at seven o’clock tomorrow morning.

(-) You won’t be going to school at seven o’clock tomorrow morning.

(?) Will you be going to school at seven o’clock tomorrow morning ?

3
E. Future Perfect Tense

Future Perfect Tense is used to express something that "has happened, but WILL"

The Formula:

(+): S + will + have + V3

(-): S + will + not + have + V3

Past Future Tense is used to declare events WILL be done, BUT in the past, not today. Learning
Tenses English is muter-muter around this TIME: past / paste, present / present (present), later / will

The Formula :

(+): S + would + V1
