Mamusa Art Bistro


Case Brief
(First Release: March 25, 2019)

COMPANY BACKGROUND

MAMUSA Art Bistro is the first integrated Bistro with an Art Gallery in Iloilo City owned
by Anj Enriquez, Krys Balmaceda, Shiela Molato, and Joana Pajarillo. Just like any
other bistro, it is a modest restaurant that offers moderately priced meals and also
serves alcohol. However, Mamusa also created the establishment in order to cater all
forms of art and not just food.

This newly-opened art bistro in Iloilo City is located beside the Iloilo Museum of
Contemporary Art in Iloilo Business Park, Megaworld, Iloilo City. The establishment is
also located near famous hotels, businesses, and attractions such as Richmonde Hotel
Iloilo, Smallville Complex, SM City Iloilo, and Atria.
Although the idea for the business initially came about in 2017, it was officially opened
to the public just last September 21, 2018. Owned by three artists, the idea for the art
bistro came from their own personal interests for art. The second level of the place is a
full on art gallery which features artworks such as sculptures (made from metal, clay,
and wood), paintings (made with mixed media) and the like, from many of Iloilo’s most-
recognized visual artists.

The art gallery provides a creative space for the artistic Ilonggos to showcase their
talents. All throughout the bistro people can see various artworks all open for interested
buyers. The artworks from established, emerging artists converge in one space creating
a summary of the current local art scene. The light and pastel colors of the furniture
coupled with the colorful artworks create a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere for
Mamusa. Additionally, this playful ambiance during daytime changes in the later part of
the evening. The lighting is adjusted to create a cooler tone suitable for drinking. The
varying ambiance was made in order to cater to their coffee-lovers in the morning and
cocktail-drinkers in the evening.

Mamusa is a flexible space for people who have a strong sense of appreciation for
different art forms. It acts as a supportive avenue for local artists to showcase their
talents and passion in visual arts, music, performing arts, and the like. The Art Bistro
features different artists during their exhibits which runs for around 20 days. Aside from
their art exhibits, they also hold music events and celebrate the holidays in creative
ways; for example, during halloween, all the staff dress-up in their most creative and
terrifying halloween costumes. Mamusa strives to provide each and every individual
with a unique and enjoyable experience because it wants to be known as a tourist hub
for locals and non-locals that have a strong appreciation for art.

The art bistro specializes in Western cuisine with an Ilonggo twist. Aside from having
unique tastes, each dish is plated with fine details to look appealing. Its specialty drinks
are also carefully curated and locally sourced to provide a unique experience for people
who have different alcohol preferences. Similarly, it offers products unique to Mamusa
like dishes such as KBL, Crispy Pata, and some coffee-based beverages such as
Flavored Coffee Frappe. Overall, it wants to be known as a place not just for its art or
for its food and beverages but a place that integrates all these elements together to
create the ambience of an art bistro.
VISION
● To be an inviting picturesque space in Iloilo that people will associate with great
food, service, and coffee.
● To be a creative space that will foster an even greater sense of community
among the creatives in Iloilo.

GOALS
Mamusa Art Bistro aims:
● To provide an aesthetically pleasing venue with food and beverages that are not
only meticulously styled but are also scrumptious and with a good value for
money.
● To showcase the local talents from Iloilo, Negros and Manila.
● To provide an avenue for gallery exhibits, poetry readings, live music,
performance art, etc.
● To kindle creativity by providing short workshops on painting, craft making,
ukulele playing, etc.
