Community
celebrates
Maj. K.D.
Residents danced, ate and chatted at Johnson’s retirement cookout at south precinct.

DeKalb County residents gathered March 30 to

celebrate Maj. K.D. Johnson before his last day on the
job.
Residents had an opportunity to thank Johnson for
his service in the community at a cookout held in his
honor at the DeKalb County Police Department South
Precinct in Decatur. Johnson officially retired from the
police department March 31.
Johnson started his career at south precinct. He
worked with the department for 30 years and served as
major at south precinct since April 2015. He said it was
bittersweet to see so many people from the community
come out to celebrate him.
“It lets me know that what we started in 2015 paid
off,” Johnson said. “We had people supporting what we
were doing, [they] saw the vision and supported me.”
Long-time south DeKalb resident Faye Coffield said
Johnson has done great work in the community for many
years.
“He has run programs, programs for children,”
Coffield said. “He has been able to find jobs for
convicted felons and ex-offenders, and good paying jobs
