JOSEPH CHISOLM NAMED DIRECTOR OF NEW AFTER-SCHOOL JAZZ BAND PROGRAM

‘BACK-TO-SCHOOL’ AUDITIONS OPEN FOR SUGAR HOUSE, WEST JORDAN LOCATIONS

Salt Lake City, UT - Utah-based after-school band program provider, MusicGarage has named
trombonist, composer, bandleader and educator Joseph ‘Joe’ Chisolm as Director of it’s new
“​JazzGarage” after-school jazz band program​. Joe
Chisholm is a trombonist and music educator who
holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies currently
working on his Ph.D. Joe has an extensive history as
a recording artist, performing musician, sideman and
band leader in Utah and Colorado with the Utah
Symphony, Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra, New Deal
Swing, The Colorado Jazz Orchestra, The Colorado
Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Republic, Quadraphonic,
MOThFu, The Folz Ensemble, SLAJO , John Henry,
and more recently, the Joe Chisholm Quintet.

Joe’s range as an educator encompasses all ages and ability levels. Joe has recently held
tenure as brass teacher for 3rd-6th graders at the American Preparatory Academy and currently
is a resident brass teacher at Rowland Hall Junior High School.

Joe Chisolm and JazzGarage will schedule auditions as inquiries are received toward
organizing as many as four new jazz groups of varying size and focus. Interested parents and

Since 2009 MusicGarage.Org has supported music teachers whose students want to perform in
a band. Our bands perform on a regular basis, eliminating the need for teacher-based recitals.
Unlike traditional music schools that bill for and provide private lessons, MusicGarage is an
‘add-on’ service to private lessons that keeps students with their existing teacher so that
students can actualize their skills in bands with like-minded musicians. MusicGarage youth
bands perform at venues, fairs and festivals year-round and musicians may participate in more
than one band. Bands record in MusicGarage’s SugarHouse and West Jordan studios.
