Global warming

All living organisms will be burn alive. Yes! Global warming if not check will bring an
end to life on planet earth. Thus governments all over the world are concerned about the
adverse effects of the rise of the average temperature of planet earth. IN 1992, the earth
Summit was held at Riode Janeiro, Brazil where 150 countries agreed to confront the
problem of Greenhouse gages. In 1997, in Japan, 160 nations signed an agreement called
as Kyoto Protocol. The Protocol calls upon the developed nations to reduce the emissions
of Greenhouse gages up to 50 % by 2012. The treaty still awaits to be implemented by
the developed countries, especially the US. Our survival on the planet depends upon the
maintenance of the environment that protects us. Thus, it becomes our utmost need and
necessity to regain the lost balance in the nature and create harmony between its various
constituent elements.

Global Warming Causes

As said, the major cause of global warming is the emission of green house gases like
carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide etc into the
atmosphere. The major source of carbon dioxide is
the power plants. These power plants emit large
amounts of carbon dioxide produced from burning
of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity
generation. About twenty percent of carbon
dioxide emitted in the atmosphere comes from
burning of gasoline in the engines of the vehicles.
This is true for most of the developed countries.
Buildings, both commercial and residential
represent a larger source of global warming
pollution than cars and trucks.

Building of these structures require a lot of fuel to be burnt which emits a large amount of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Methane is more than 20 times as effectual as CO2 at
entrapping heat in the atmosphere. Methane is obtained from resources such as rice
paddies, bovine flatulence, bacteria in bogs and fossil fuel manufacture. When fields are
flooded, anaerobic situation build up and the organic matter in the soil decays, releasing
methane to the atmosphere. The main sources of nitrous oxide include nylon and nitric
acid production, cars with catalytic converters, the use of fertilizers in agriculture and the
burning of organic matter. Another cause of global warming is deforestation that is
caused by cutting and burning of forests for the purpose of residence and
industrialization.

Global warming projections:

A group of scientists have recently reported on the surprisingly speedy rise in the
discharge of carbon and methane release from frozen tundra in Siberia, now starting to
melt because of human cause increases in earth’s temperature. The scientists tell us that
the tundra is in danger of melting holds an amount of extra global warming pollution that
is equivalent to the net amount that is previously in the earth's atmosphere. Likewise,
earlier one more team of scientists reported that the in a single year Greenland witnessed
32 glacial earthquakes between 4.6 and 5.1 on the Richter scale. This is a disturbing sign

biggest accretion of ice on the planet. This ice would be enough to raise sea level 20 feet

1. The leading cause of global warming is from water vapor, then carbon dioxide
emissions, nitrous oxides, and chlorofluorocarbons (used in household appliances
like air conditioning).
2. Chlorofluorocarbons are expected to be eliminated and put out of use by 2030 to
help slow down global warming.

4. Methane is the second biggest cause of greenhouse warming. Gas from cows is a
big contributor to global warming.
5. A big enough volcano eruption could cool the earth for one or two years because
sulfuric acid from the explosion would combine with water vapor to form a
“shield” that would reflect some sunlight away from earth. Such an eruption
would be quite catastrophic, though.
6. The coloration of aerosols (miniscule particles in the air) generally changes their
relationship with the sun. Lightly colored aerosols reflect light back away from
earth (as a white t-shirt) while darker aerosols generally absorb heat (as a hot
asphalt road when it is sunny).
7. Generally, wispy clouds, such as cirrus clouds, trap light and thus warm the
atmosphere whilst thick clouds generally reflect sunlight.
8. Ice/snow cover cools the earth by reflecting sunlight.
9. Without water vapor’s effect on the atmosphere, the earth would be at below
freezing temperatures.

evacuated due to rising sea levels and subsequent flooding.b
 For the past million years, cool climate conditions have primarily prevailed
throughout the world. It was under these conditions that the human species evolved.a
 The earth has always experienced cyclical bouts of climate change. Recorded
temperatures throughout history display graphs of peaks and valleys with occasional
extreme periods, such as the Little Ice Age of the seventeenth and eighteenth century and
the Medieval Warm Period of the eleventh century.g
 According to NASA studies, average temperatures around the world have increased
1.4° F since 1880, with most of the change occurring in recent decades.f
 During the twentieth century, the earth experienced two warming trends. The first
was a burst in temperature from 1900-1930, and the second is a continuing increase in
temperature beginning in the 1970s.g

 The last two decades of the twentieth century were the hottest decades in more than
400 years and may have been the hottest decades for several thousand year.
