can travel at 45 km/h on the desert and 75 km/h on the road. The
driver will win a prize if she arrives at the finish line at point D, 50 km
from B, in 84 min or less. What route should she travel to minimize the
time of travel? Does she win the prize?

3. a. A train, starting at 11 a.m., travels east at 45 miles per hour, while

miles per hour. How fast in the distance between them increasing at 3
p.m.?

b. A closed, right cylindrical storage container is to have a volume of

5000 m 3 . The material for the top and bottom of the container will cost
RM20 per square meter while the material for the rest of the container
will cost RM4 per square meter. Find the height h and the radius r in
order to minimize the cost.
