Voice of the people
Holds leaders responsible
I don’t live in Columbus, so I can
take an outsider’s view and speak my
mind without worrying about reprisal
from elected officials. The “leader-
ship” of Columbus is to blame for the
state of affairs there. You can elect
the village idiot to a post because he
is likable, but you’re cutting your nose
off to spite your face. The same holds
true, only more so, for elected officials
at the State and National levels. Other
towns in the area aren’t experiencing
the woes Columbus is. Why?
Streets are in poor condition, but
an amphitheater is more important.
The budget is in, shall we say, bad
shape? The people you put in charge
should be held accountable and made
to answer. Columbus isn’t the only
town with money problems. Here in
Brooksville part of the town’s water
supply is rusted, cast iron pipes.
Drink the water here and you’ll get
your daily quota of iron in your diet!
Macon and Shuqualak are applying
for/getting federal grants to improve
their towns. Brooksville is not. Why
not? Are we disqualified, or did we not
file an application? Who knows?
It’s past time that voters all across
this great country start thinking
before we vote. Stop electing some-
body you’d like to have a beer with,
or somebody you’re kin to. Let’s put
capable, responsible people in office
all across this country, and watch
things improve for everybody, not just
an elite few.
