drain intervals, from 250 to 500 hours. This led fo a reported annual cost
saving of US$12,956 (€9,966)

1 The Challeng
The customer operates construction diesel powered
machinery in high ambient temperotures, under very
high loods and dusty conditions. Shel was faced with
the challenge of helping the customer lower operating
costs by providing lubricant that would safely double
cil drain intervals to 500 hours and provide a high
level of protection to their equipment.
The Outcome:
‘As a resul of the assessment carried out by
Shell udeAnalyst and the change to Shell Rimula R4,
the customer was able to increase cil drain intervals,
from 250 to 500 hours and provide increased
protection against dit and deposits tothe engine. This
lead to a variety of operational benefits:
* Reduction in mainlenance costs
+ Reduction in lubrication costs
+ Less downtime and increased productivity
+ Reduction in costs for filer replacements due to
increased protection against dirt/deposts

The Solution:
Through technical collaboration with J. Cornacho
& Filhos, Shel lubAnalyst was used to monitor
2 trial with the proposed heavy-duty engine oil =
Shell Rimula R4. As a result, Shell wos able to
demonstrate that switching to Shel Rimula Rd would
caddess the customer's need fo increase the oil drain
inervals ond to reduce costs whilst sill protecting the
equipment within the harsh operating conditions.
