LIST OF APPLICATIONS
● Fluorescent lamps manufacturing, disposal and re-cycling
● Emergency response to mercury spill & cleanup monitoring
● Mercury contamination source surveying & investigation
● Industrial/worker safety and hygiene surveying
● Facility workplace monitoring
● Hazardous waste inspection and screening
(1)
● At-site stack, exhaust duct & etc flue gases screening and measurement
(2)
● Mercury in natural gas screening and measurement
(3)
● At-site mercury in water analysis
(1) to couple with gas reduction module (2) via tedlar bag (3) to couple with reduction impinger kit
analysis. The drawback of these methods is clearly their inability to provide the instant

on-site/field results, thus delaying the decision to take necessary actions to prevent further
exposure, evacuation and clean-up. To address this issue, the NIC EMP-2 offers on-site
Phototube
measurement of mercury vapor concentration in a real-time basis, even allowing tracking to the
source of contamination. In operation, the EMP-2 draws the sample gas directly into the
absorption cell and employs Ultra-Violet (UV) Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) method to
determine the mercury concentration at a specific wavelength of 253.7nm. The UV atomic
absorption spectroscopy technique is superior in selectivity over most goldsensor/film resistance
techniques that are commonly affected by humidity and temperature variation. Moreover,
presence of acid gases will rapidly deteriorate the gold sensor which needs re-generation and
factory calibration. The EMP-2 is not impacted by acid gases up to extraordinarily high levels.
