Process Design Practice

Submission Requirements
Design Package: Engineering Design

The following items are required in the design package due before 4 pm on Sunday, December
24, 2017

Submission: 5 page executive summary document.

Supporting document: up to 50 pages of completed supporting documents (10 pp per team

member). THIS DOCUMENT MUST ALSO BE SUBMITTED. It will be reviewed at the
subsequent report back session. The document may be separated into sections for each
individual contribution, but should present as a coherent and unified document.

The tasks for this submission are:

1 An equipment schedule showing all processing equipment in the section and their equipment
designations consistent with the PFDs.
2 For each piece of major equipment state:
 basis of equipment selection and brief description

 basis for the shortcut design such as residence time, heat load, throughput, product
quality, operating P and T, etc.

Present as a specification summary for each shortcut item

3 Shortcut equipment designs to obtain sizing of equipment. Present as a calculation sheet for
each item with any references to charts, monographs or simplified equations. Can be done
neatly on numbered calculation sheets. ( no duplication for identical items).
4 A simple outline sketch of the equipment, showing location of any key features such as
nozzles, hatches, instrument connections etc. This shows plan, elevation and side elevation.
Show overall dimensions of the item.
5 Preliminary detailed equipment design

 basis of the design

 standard(s) to be used for mechanical design
 type of equipment and selection criteria
 indication of any internals supports or ancillary equipment needed
 operating and design temperatures/pressures
