Saia® PCD3.Mxxx0 – PLC series

high performance, compact, modular
Controls Division

By the combination of a fast microprocessor generation with the component-based Saia® NT

operating system, the Saia® PCD3 controller series sets highest benchmarks at functionality and
performance.
The PCD3 controller series consists of 11 equipment variants. Up to four flash- and/or intelligent
modules can be connected directly with the main processor, thus means «unlimited» memory
capacity and extremely effective communication.
Programmable with PG5 from Saia-Burgess Controls

Latest CPU technology

 Future-safe processor technology, up to 1024 Kbytes memory on board plus optional flash modules
combined with the Saia® NT operating system, transform a simply packed PLC into a very high performance,
enormously low-priced PLC of the middle class
 Profibus- and Ethernet-TCP/IP-interface in the base unit. Integrated Web server
Maximum peripheral connections
 Up to 1023 central inputs/outputs plus 2 interrupt inputs on board
 Additional remote inputs/outputs in RIO nodes via Profibus and/or Saia® Profi-S-Net
Efficient Saia® programming tools
 Convenient and efficient programming with comprehensive application components of PG5 Controls Suite
 HMI: HMI editor for PLC based displays; Web editor for Web-Panels
 FBox builder: adapt Fboxes to reqirements or create new FBoxes in order to save own know how
 A coordinating combination of operating system and programming tool achieves maximum speed,
reliability and functionality
High performance processor,
high performance Saia® NT operating system,
high performance programming tool PG5
The Saia® PCD3 series unites continuity with innovative ideas and new technology.
As a result, it covers the performance/function spectrum of several convention device series.
It achieves this through a high degree of modularity in hardware and firmware.

The fast main processor has been incorporated in the back-plate of the device, unlike comparable systems.
Its capacity can be increased individually with plug-in co-processor modules and/or intelligent I/O modules.
These have a direct, very fast bus connection to the main processor. The Saia® PCD3 series is therefore
excellently prepared for the rapidly increasing demands on performance that are to be expected.

Fast CPUs with COLDFIRE processor CF5272

 Can be used in time-critical applications to replace the formerly most
powerful PCD multiprocessor technology
 Use of convenient graphical software is possible, due to the fast CPU and
large memory capacity
 Ideally suited for use as master controller in large installations with many
remote inputs/outputs and intelligent actuators and sensors

Characteristics of the Saia® PCD operating system

 Program portability across the entire PCD family
 Short reaction times, due to the instruction sets proximity to hardware, efficient
addressing modes, direct access to I/Os, and other features
 The open architecture of the component-based Saia® NT operating system provides
a basis for problem-free adaption to future developments, thereby guaranteeing
maximum investment protection

Programming, project planning and configuration of Saia® PCD

Advantages of the PG5 Controls Suite (Details see TI 26/362 and SI 26/422)
 Program portability: PG5 programs can run on all Saia® PCD platforms
 Program organization by files (containing several program blocks) simplifies the
shared use of program files between several Saia® PCD controllers
 Programming and debugging environments united in the same program editor
 Simple programming of terminal displays with the integral HMI Editor
 Creation of Java based Web sites with the Saia® S-Web editor
 Powerful instruction set supported by macros and assembler directives

Features of the PG5 Controls Suite

 Symbol Manager administers all local, global and network symbols or symbol
groups. Automatic address allocation largely dispenses with the need for fixed
addressing.
 Project Manager administers complex installations of networked PCDs,
including displays and documentation
 Online functions for commissioning and error detection via Ethernet-TCP/IP,
Saia® S-Bus, modem etc.
 Integrated programming environments:
  Fupla (function block diagram)
  S-Edit (instruction list IL)
 Graftec (sequential function chart)
 Integrated network editors for Saia® S-Bus, Saia®  S-Net, Profibus DP
 Extensive additional libraries broaden the scope of PG5 functions

With its fast COLDFIRE processor, expansion to 1023 central I/Os and large memory capacity,
the PCD3.Mxxx0 offer a powerful controller platform for multiprocessor operation and data recording,
date management and data transfer.
PCD3.Mxxx0 have four times the number of registers and up to 5 interfaces built into the base unit.
With add-on modules 8 additional serial ports can be achieved. The operating system supports different
protocols, naturally Saia® S-Bus and field busses, such as Profibus and Ethernet TCP/IP.
The Profibus layer 2 (FDL) based Saia® private control network Profi-S-Net includes special features,
as multiprotocol operation (e.g. DP, MPI and HTTP), multimaster communication, the transmission of
plugins (active slaves) and web access.

Whether the drive is analogue or digital, whether there is a frequency inverter, stepper and servomotors
(DC/BL/AC), whether positioning action takes place centrally in the PCD or locally in an intelligent drive: the
PCD offers an efficient solution for every technology and topology. By close coupling of the PCD and the driving
controller, even complex motion sequences and their associated peripheral control functions can be realized
with the comfort and diagnostic capabilities of PCD programming.

Labelling Input-/ Output modules

Addressing and marking I/O modules and module holders

I/O module slots in the module holder are labelled ei-
ther with numbers
■ 0…3 (PCD3.Mxxxx  / T76x / C100, C200)
■ 0…1 (PCD3.C110)
➊ (4 310 8686 0) ➋ (4 329 4819 0)
The inscription carrier supplied ➋ can either be used
for additional labelling of the module holders, or for
the I/O modules themselves. They are blank and, de-
pending on requirements, may either be inscribed by
➌ ➌ hand or by means of preprinted adhesive strips ➊ .
➍ The connection diagram printed on the side of each
I/O module ➌ not only makes wiring easier, it also
helps during commissioning. On the opposite side
of the cassette sufficient space is available ➍ for the
user to add his own labelling.

Fast labelling of I/O modules with the Saia® Label Creator

This software tool is used to inscribe PCD3 label clips effi ciently. The user enters unique data-point texts
in the tool. These can then be printed on the A4 master sheet. For the different types of PCD3 modules, the
user selects formats with the corresponding spacing. Text entered and all standard text parameters (such
as size, colour and font) can then be stored and reused as a master.

Product description

QUINT POWER is the powerful 60 - 960 W DC power supply unit for universal use. With its wide-range input, single and
three-phase versions, and international approval package, this solution is unrivalled. QUINT POWER provides reliable
power supply: generously dimensioned capacitors ensure mains buffering of over 20 ms at full load. Full output power
is provided by all three-phase devices, even in the event of a permanent phase failure. The Power Boost power reserve
easily starts loads with high inrush currents and ensures that fuses are reliably tripped. Preventive function monitoring
diagnoses impermissible operating states and minimizes downtimes in your system. Remote monitoring is provided by
an active transistor switching output and a floating relay contact. All devices are idling-proof and short-circuit-proof, and
are available with a regulated and adjustable output voltage of 12, 24, and 48 V DC with output currents of 2.5, 5, 10, 20,

MINI MCR-SL-RPS-I-I(-SP)

Repeater Power Supply

Data Sheet 11/2004

Product Description Features

The MINI MCR-SL-RPS-I-I(-SP) repeater power
supplies have the task of supplying 2 or 3-conductor
transmitters located in the field and electrically
isolating the input signal from the output signal.
On the input and output side, the analog standard
signals 0...20 mA or 4...20 mA are available,
electrically isolated.
The voltage supply (19.2...30 V DC) can either be
provided via connecting terminal blocks "7"/"8" of the
modules, or together, via the DIN rail bus connector
(see Figure 5 on page 6). Please also observe "Power
Supply" on page 7.

SmiSSline electrical protective devices
in a system
SmiSSline – The original
Shaping the future

SmiSSline protection devices are simply snapped into a

plug-in socket system. The arduous task of power supply and
connection is done. in addition to savings in time and mon-
ey, another advantage of the system is the quick and easy
exchangeability of the devices. if the corresponding spare
capacity is planned, subsequent expansion consists merely of
plugging in and connecting additional devices.
The new generation of electrical protective devices
in a system:

− Flexible, fast and modular

− Free choice for concept and layout
− Time-saving by planning and assembly

0/2 Overview | Technical catalogue SmiSSline

Avoid uneven loads
The phase connection can be identified without removing the
devices.

Flexibility up to the last minute

SmiSSline makes it possible to press ahead with planning,
even before all the details of a system are known. loads can
be easily reassigned. even if the usage of an entire installation
is completely changed, the effort in-volved remains small.

Freedom to design and arrange

SmiSSline gives you freedom of choice: mixed-pole arrange-
ment of all devices next to each other.
