Our Obligations

Ethics are standards and principles that are set out for an individual's behavior to

handling a certain situation. To have justice is when one seeks fairness and equality in a certain

situation. Between the two, ethics and justice are similar in a way for that they are trying to

create a good doing in this time of event. When you seek justice you are trying to make the

situation better which makes it become ethical. Therefore, in my 10 rules to live by, the

framework that these 10 rules are based on are virtue framework, natural duties, and duty

framework.

First, one should follow their virtue framework which is what one would do in a situation

based on their own character. Two rules to live by based on virtue framework is to think about

others and to check on others. One should think and check on others because from my

perspective, when you are checking or being to others, you are showing an act of good. Checking

on an individual and showing kindness towards one can demonstrate a good person because you

are being generous for they could be going through a rough time. It is our obligations to think

about others in our own way where we wouldn’t give up on our own selves. Therefore, these

rules connects to the claim because they are trying to do good based on our personality and

perspective.
Secondly, natural duties which is doing morally good acts in a community. Five rules to

live by based on natural duties are to respect others, help others, do justice with respect, have

integrity for others, and be kind to others. It is our obligations to be doing good acts in the

community for which we are being ethical towards one another. For example, “ny accepting the

benefits she conferred on me, I implicity consented to pay her back when she was in need”

(Sandel 16). This shows that we are obligated to help one another which is demonstrating to be

ethical and bring justice. Moreover, these rules connects to the claim because these rules are

trying to provide justice in the community.

Lastly, duty framework which you are just trying to do the right thing. Three rules to live

by based on duty frameworks are do no harm, do not lie or cheat others, and do not force others.

It is our obligations to always do the right thing because even though they may not do entirely

good, one should always do what is right. These set of rules connects to the claim because these

rules are trying to do good acts.

To add on, in creating this list of rules, I thought what I believe everyone should follow.

However, a revision I made was rule #7 because the original rule can lead to others taking

advantage of one. The original rule was care about others rather than yourself. I changed this rule

to one should check on others because in this rule you are still thinking about others without

being taken advantage of.

To conclude, from these rules to live by, if I were to live by these rules, I think my life

would be better. I believe my life would be better because knowing that I am doing something

good to make someone’s day or not hurt anyone in anyway makes me feel great for that person

can feel great. If the world lived by these rules I think everyone would be so much kinder and
harmless. I believe everyone would be kinder and harmless because everyone would just want to

help one another and not hurt anybody physically or emotionally.
