Thesis Title: “Current Perspectives on Mother Tongue-Based Instruction among Grade I-III

The main problem of the study is to determine the current perception of Grade I-III
Specifically, it dealt with answer to the following: (1) The current perception of the teachers in
relation to the Mother-Tongue Based Instruction in terms of The use of mother tongue along
instruction, the needed instructional materials along the MTB- MLE and the challenges
encountered along the MTB-MLE; and (2) The action plan proposed based on the findings. The
descriptive method of research was used in the study. Grade I-III public school elementary
teachers served as the respondents of the research study. They are composed of six (6) teachers
from Palingon Elementary School, (20) from Looc Elementary School and eight (8) from San
Juan Elementary School. The statistical treatments used were percentages, and weighted mean.
Findings of the study indicated that the teachers have strongly agreed on the statement
that the use of mother tongue encourages a relaxing learning atmosphere among the learners. On
the area of instructional materials needed, the participants have agreed that the Mother Tongue is
a great help to the pupils to understand their lessons given by their teacher. Lastly, on the
challenges encountered along the implementation of MTB-MLE, the participants have also
agreed that there is scarcity in the reference materials used by the teachers. The research output
is a proposed action plan designed to address the problems encountered during this research
study.
