Good day to you! How are you today? I’m glad that you are better
than yesterday. Today, let’s try to solve common percentage problems
without using your pens and papers. In other words, we will solve them
mentally.

Let’s Learn This

In the previous module, you learned how to solve or find the

percentage when the rate and base are given. This module focuses on
how to compute common percentage problems mentally.

Find the percentage.

1. 20% of 80 =
2. 10% of 50 =
3. 60% of 40 =
4. 80% of 60 =
5. 30% of 80 =

Observe properly how to compute percentage mentally.

Examples:

1. Joselito got 80% of 60 items correct in a mathematics test. How

many correct items did he get?

Study this carefully.

80% = .80
.80 x 60 = 48.00

N = 48

Use the formula, P = B x R. Convert percent to decimal. Proceed to

multiplication. Use cancellation if needed.

2. What is 90% of 80?

90% = .90
.90 x80 = 72.00

N = 72

Note: You can simply multiply the non-zero digits in the factor. In
example number 2, the non-zero digits are 9 and 8. So if we will get
the product of 9 and 8, the answer is 72.
