What data do you include in your findings?
• Not all the data that you have collected should
be included in your findings. Only data that
help develop your conclusions and related to
your objectives should appear in your findings.
• As all your data have been organised into
several headings, you should have a heading
for each of the groups. You can arrange the
sub headings in an orderly fashion.
Highlight the findings that help you develop
your conclusion.
• Start with the main idea first.
•Write a general statement that best
summarizes or generalizes the data.
• Then support your main idea.
•Use the data found in your visuals as
evidence to support the main idea.
Example ( based on Figure 1)

Figure 1 shows that the majority of the students were

satisfied with the choice of newspapers at the library.
More than 90% of the students were satisfied with the
selection of newspapers available compared to only
10% who were not satisfied.

However, most of the students were dissatisfied with the

choice of other reading materials including reference
books and journals and magazines. More than 72% of
the students were dissatisfied with the section of
reference books. In addition, 70% were also
dissatisfied with the selections of journals and magazines
in the library.
• It can be concluded that the choices of
newspapers available at the library are
satisfactory although the choice of books
and reference materials in the library is
unsatisfactory.
• It is recommended that the library increase
the selection of reference books, journals
and magazines.
