Press Release November 1, 2010

66IB conducts civic action programs in Mawab

In its goal to promote peace and development in its area of responsibility,

the 66th Infantry Battalion spearheaded the conduct of a medical and dental civic
action program (MEDCAP) at Barangay Andili, Mawab, Compostela Valley
Province on Sunday, October 31, 2010. More than a thousand residents of said
place benefited from the services rendered by the different participants to the
program.

Military personnel from 10ID Headquarters left Naval Station Felix

Apolinario as early as 5:00 o’clock in the morning and proceeded to Barangay
Andili to help the Peace and Development Team of the 66th Infantry Battalion
deployed in the area prepare the venue for the MEDCAP. Tables and chairs
were arranged to allow the smooth flow of patients who would avail of the free
medical, dental and other services offered during the MEDCAP.

Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Santiago, 10ID Staff Officer for civil-military

operations (CMO) organized the participation of 10ID personnel to the MEDCAP.
He brought along with him 3 medical officers and one dental officer from Camp
Panacan Station Hospital and 10ID Medical Company. “It feels good to be of
service and help to our people, especially those who cannot afford the cost of
medical services in the cities,” he said. He also brought with him the 10ID combo
to provide musical numbers while the MEDCAP was going on.

The program was highly appreciated by the people of Barangay Andili as

they availed of the services during the one-day event. “They have shared with us
this program that we will never forget in our lifetime. Truly, our soldiers are doing
their best to bring peace in our communities. We therefore call on our lost
brothers to return to the folds of law and give peace a chance,” Barangay
Captain Antonio Urdano Jr. said during the activity. He also deployed his
Barangay Health Workers (BHW) to participate in the MEDCAP.

Thirteen members of the New People’s Army have already surfaced in

Barangay Andili and returned to the folds of the law since the deployment of the
peace and development teams in said barangay in September this year. Colonel
Roberto Domines Jr, newly designated 1001st Infantry Brigade Commander, who
came to personally supervise the program, stressed that the program
demonstrates the good things that could happen if there is peace in the
community. “If there is peace, development will surely follow,” Colonel Domines
said.
The activity ended at around 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. A total of one
thousand and two hundred residents benefited from the medical consultation and
treatment, dental check up and tooth extraction, eyeglasses distribution, shiatsu
massage, haircut, repair of umbrella and shoes, and vaccination of tetanus toxoid
and AH1N1.

More of this kind of activity can be expected as the soldiers immersed

themselves with the communities in the different parts of Davao Region. This is
the trust of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, Philippine Army under the leadership
of Major General Jorge Segovia AFP, a move supported by various sectors.
