The 100 Evaluation

Many shows such as, “The Office,” “Breaking Bad,” and “Friends” are all top picks

when you ask someone what their favorite TV show is. There is one show that stands out more

than all of them, “The 100.” This show stands out like this because it takes you on a journey.

This show is an excellent pick for anyone because it has everything that you could ask for in a

show. “The 100” captures you with its concerning plot as soon as you turn it on.

The last known surviving humans are in space, and they need to find other ways to help

support themselves in desperate times. To do this, they send 100 criminals to Earth to see if it is

inhabitable again by humans. The reason this show is so interesting is because the 100 criminals

that are sent down are all teenagers. As you watch throughout the seasons, you experience how

they create their own government, all while fighting off the dangers that Earth has to offer. “The

100” stands out amongst other shows because it has excellent character development and allows

you to truly feel what they are feeling. Another reason this show stands out is because of the

chaotic flow of the show. Within the first episode, you are already hooked wondering many

different things. You’re left wondering whether people are going to be the death of the human

race, or the environment around them. “The 100” pushes your emotions through character

development and original delivery of conflict within the show.

Unlike other sci-fi shows, “The 100” is able to set up original conflicts amongst their

society and their environment around them. One example of this happening is at the beginning of

the show. You are introduced to a new world where the last humans only know how to live on

space, and they need to go find a way to survive on Earth. Their solution? They decide to send

100 delinquents down to Earth, with minimal supplies. Just off the start, you are wondering how

exactly they are going to survive. Whether it’s the conlficting ideas or the enviroment that kills

them off, you are already thinking about what could happen next. Another example of original

conflict is the way every society on Earth interacts with each other. As you watch, you will find

out that they are not the only humans. There are plenty of different societies on Earth, all with

different goals in mind. One society, in particular, is trying to make it possible for them to come

up to the surface without the dangers of radiation that’s on Earth. The issue that springs from this

is that they have to use the blood of the “space humans.” Even things as small as tresspassing

into other societies can get people killed. This show brings everything back to its origin when it

comes to the morals of societies, and how they interact with each other.

Another reason why “The 100” is a must watch is because of the use of character

development. An example of character development is the way leaders push their people to make

their own decisions. This occurs multiple times within the show because there are over 15

different leaders that you end up meeting. When everyone lived up in space, any crime an adult

committed could be punishable by getting “floated.” This essentially is them just throwing you

off into space to die. They needed to do this because everything on the spacecraft was limited,

even the oxygen. Because of this, the delinquents realized that this is not the way they wanted to

live their society down on Earth. Every character that made it to Earth ended up questioning their

morals because of the previous actions taken on their friends and families in space. Another

example of character development in “The 100” is the connection each individual has with one

another. This becomes very pure and true near the end of the show. At this point, it is very rare

for anyone to have friends or family still alive, but you can still see the love each has for one

another. One of the main characters, Clarke, makes a new friend near the end of the show. As she

makes her friend, she promises that nothing will happen to her. Then, within the next episodes,

you see how Clarke puts herself in danger, and how she will do anything possible to keep her

friend safe.

“The 100” is a show that is completely underrated and is seemed to be thrown under and

forgotten. But I can tell you that it’s not true. From an anonymous user on the famous IMDb

website, they say this about “The 100.” “It’s gritty and edgy with excellent production value and

the only other program I’m getting the same level of epic from right now is Game of Thrones.” If

you won’t take it from me, you might as well take it from someone that enjoys watching big

name T.V series. Now, stop day dreaming and go see what it’s like to only have 100 people left

in the world.
