Performs engineering and/or applied research of a unique and unprecedented nature and acts as a consulting expert in seismic assessment, engineering, and finite element modeling (FEM) of electrical and mechanical
equipment.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


A Consulting Engineer must possess the technical aptitude and capability to work as an individual researcher or team leader to conceive, plan, and conduct investigations in unique and important areas for which engineering
precedents are rare or nonexistent. The Consulting Engineer must also possess the ability to: perform highly-technical engineering analysis, finite element modeling, communicate effectively, and to provide innovative solutions

Experience/Education (Directly Related)


Minimum of fourteen years with Professional Engineer's License in California or equivalent experience.
Minimum of ten years of experience developing fragility curves for structural performance.
Minimum of eight years of experience preparing seismic assessments of high voltage (220kV & 500kV) electrical substations; performing seismic qualification of electrical and mechanical substation equipment using finite
element modeling; engineering and designing substation facilities in high seismic zones; providing seismic retrofit solutions for strengthening existing structures; performing time history dynamic analysis as defined in IEEE std.
693 section 6.2.4.
Experience with preparing structural drawings and specifications for seismic retrofit projects.
Experience with conducting assessment and designs using IEEE 693, IEEE 1527, ASCE 7, and building code.
Must be a License in Civil and/or Structural Engineering in California.
