A medical emergency is a situation where life and health are threatened and no
one is really prepared for. However, there are some guidelines you can use in
order to know how to react when facing such situation.

In a medical emergency, follow this protocol:

1. Dial the emergency number (it is 123 in Colombia).

2. The operator will ask you about the emergency.
3. Give him/her detailed information.
4. Provide your personal information i.e. name, age, location, contact numbers,
etc.
5. Follow the instructions given by the operator.
6. Hold on the phone until you are told to do otherwise.
Those simple steps will give you the chance to provide the casualty with proper
assistance.
It is recommended no to give first aid if you are not a trained expert, but there are
some circumstances where there is not much time left and it is better to react. In
case you have the opportunity to do something on your own, the next chart gives
you clear information on how to proceed in specific emergencies.
