Learning Objective 9.3 The student will evaluate current fitness behaviors and
demonstrate achievement and maintenance of a health-
enhancing level of personal fitness by designing,
implementing, self-assessing, and modifying a personal
fitness program.
a) Demonstrate program-planning skills by assessing
and analyzing personal fitness levels, setting goals,
devising strategies, making timelines for a personal
physical fitness plan, and evaluating the
Content

components and progress of the personal fitness

plan.

Complete the following sentences:

1. The online course I’m teaching in for this activity is asynchronous.

Pedagogy Planning

2. In this online activity, my online students will use a simulation on healthyeatting.org

called Teen BEAT - Basic Exercise & Activity Tracker. They will have an individual
experience based upon their unique choices. Each child’s end result will be different, and
I will grade them online by having them submitting to me their goal sheet that they have
created that the simulation gives them at the end the activity. They will have a time
frame of one week to complete the simulation.
Online Activity The students will be participating in an online simulation that
that will track and evaluate their current physical activity level.
The teacher will start by making sure all students have
computer and internet access. The teacher will lead the
students into the simulation by providing a screencast with a
voice over on how to complete the simulation. The teacher will
provide students with the knowledge of self-assessing and
fitness planning before the students complete the module. This
way, the students will know why they are completing the
simulation and how the simulation relates to the real world.
Then, the teacher will send the online students the link to the
activity. Once the students have the access to the activity, then
they will begin the assignment. The teacher will support the
Pedagogy

students by checking in daily with the students, via email to

answer any questions or concerns regarding the simulation.
First, they will enter their name, age, and gender into the
simulation. Next the students will answer the questions given
by the simulation. The first question will ask the students, why
physical education is important to them. The students then will
choose from a list of possible responses. Once they complete
this question, they will move on to the next page. The second
question will ask them, what are hardest parts about getting
regular physical activity? Again, they will choose from a list of
chooses. Now, they will choose activities that they engage in
and describe how long, how hard, and how often they
participate in these activities. Based on the activities that they
have chosen, the simulation will create a list of activities to
add to their workout routine if needed.

Finally, the simulation will ask the students reflective question.

For example, would you like to get more physical activity and
how ready are you to make changes to your physical activity
routine? The simulation will the calculate their responses and
display a personalized physical activity graph. This graph will
show their physical activity level and compare them to the US
Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The simulation will formula a
challenge based on their previous responses.

At the end of the simulation, the program will help them set
individual goals. The students will add different types of
activities and intensity levels to their goal sheet. They will also
set a date for when they are going to start working on this
goal. The goal sheet that the simulation gives the students at
the end, will be the assignment that they will turn into the
teacher. They can either screen shot the goal sheet or print it
off and scan it in. Every student will have different goals by the
end of the simulation.

After completing the simulation, the students will have to post

their results and findings in discussion board. They will also
have to comment on two other students posts.
