USE/UPOTREBA

1. In front of the names of countries. The USA, the UK, the Netherlands

2. In front of ordinal numbers: the first, the second, the third

3. In front of superlative adjective: the most beautiful, the biggest

4. In front of musical instruments: I like to listen to the piano.

5. In front of the names of seas, rivers, oceans and canals: the Adriatic Sea, the
Atlantic, the Neretva, the Thames, the Suez Canal; mountain ranges – the Alps,
the Ands

6. In front of the names of theatres and cinemas: The playhouse, the Odeon

7. We use ‘the’ with all place names with of: the Tower of London , the City of
London, the Bank of England

8. The Golden Gate Bridge, the Severn Bridge- only in front of them.

9. The Brown’s, the Robinson’s

10. In front of the sides of the world: They live in the west of our country.

11. The sun, the moon, the earth, the sky

12. with expressions: in the morning, in the evening, in the afternoon

13. the same ; What’s the capital of the UK?

3. In front of the names of towns, streets, persons, countries, mountains.(ispred
imena gradova, ulica, osoba, zemalja, planina)

4. In front of the name of meals: I have lunch at seven o’clock. (ispred imena
obroka)

5. If you work in one of these public places you don’t use article. School, prison,
church, market, hospital. But if you say:’ I’ll meet you in front of the hospital.’
6. In front of plural and uncountable nouns when we refer to people or things in
general.
