The

gross domestic product (GDP) is one the primary indicators used to gauge the health of a country's
economy. It represents the total dollar value of all goods and services produced over a specific time
period - you can think of it as the size of the economy. Usually, GDP is expressed as a comparison to the
previous quarter or year. For example, if the year-to-year GDP is up 3%, this is thought to mean that the
economy has grown by 3% over the last year.

Measuring GDP is complicated (which is why we leave it to the economists), but at its most basic, the
calculation can be done in one of two ways: either by adding up what everyone earned in a year (income
approach), or by adding up what everyone spent (expenditure method). Logically, both measures should
arrive at roughly the same total.

The income approach, which is sometimes referred to as GDP(I), is calculated by adding up total
compensation to employees, gross profits for incorporated and non incorporated firms, and taxes less
any subsidies. The expenditure method is the more common approach and is calculated by adding total
consumption, investment, government spending and net exports.

As one can imagine, economic production and growth, what GDP represents, has a large impact on
nearly everyone within that economy. For example, when the economy is healthy, you will typically
see low unemployment and wage increases as businesses demand labor to meet the growing economy.
A significant change in GDP, whether up or down, usually has a significant effect on the stock market. It's
not hard to understand why: a bad economy usually means lower profits for companies, which in turn
means lower stock prices. Investors really worry about negative GDP growth, which is one of the factors
economists use to determine whether an economy is in a recession.

Worsted (pronounced /ˈwʊstɨd/), is the name of a yarn, the cloth made from this yarn, and a
yarn weight category. The name derives from the village of Worstead in the English county of
Norfolk. This village became, along with North Walsham and Aylsham, a centre for the
manufacture of yarn and cloth after weavers from Flanders arrived in Norfolk in the 12th
century.[1]

[edit] Technique and preparation
The essential feature of a worsted yarn is straightness of fibre, in that the fibres lie parallel to
each other. Traditionally, long, fine staple wool was spun to create worsted yarn, but other long
fibres are also used today.

Many spinners differentiate between worsted preparation and worsted spinning. Worsted
preparation refers to the way the fibre is prepared before spinning, using gilling machines which
force the fibre staples to lie parallel to each other. Once these fibres have been made into a top,
they are then combed to remove the short fibres. The long fibres are combined in subsequent
gilling machines to again make the fibres parallel. This produces overlapping untwisted strands
called slivers. Worsted spinning refers to using a worsted technique, which produces a smooth
yarn where the fibres lie parallel.

Roving and wool top are often used to spin worsted yarn. Many hand spinners buy their fibre in
roving or top form. Top and roving are ropelike in appearance, in that they can be thick and long.
While some mills put a slight twist in the rovings they make, it is not enough twist to be a yarn.
The fibres in top and rovings all lie parallel to one another along the length, which makes top
ideal for spinning worsted yarns.

Worsted-spun yarns, used to create worsted fabric, are spun from wool fibres that have been
combed, to ensure that the woollen fibres all run the same direction, butt-end (end that was cut in
shearing the sheep) to tip, and remain parallel. A short draw is used in spinning worsted fibres
(as opposed to a long draw).

In short draw spinning, spun from combed roving, sliver or wool top, the spinners keep their
hands very close to each other. The fibres are held fanned out in one hand while the other hand
pulls a small number from the mass. The twist is kept between the second hand and the wheel —
there is never any twist between the two hands.

[edit] The cloth

Worsted cloth, archaically also known as stuff, is lightweight and has a coarse texture. The
weave is usually twill or plain. Twilled fabrics such as whipcord, gabardine and serge are often
made from worsted yarn. Worsted fabric made from wool has a natural recovery, meaning that it
is resilient and quickly returns to its natural shape, but non-glossy worsted will shine with use or
abrasion

Worsteds differ from woollens, in that the natural crimp of the wool fibre is removed in the
process of spinning the yarn. In Tropical Worsteds this use of tightly-spun straightened wool
combined with a looser weave permits the free flow of air through the fabric.

Worsted is also used for carpets, garments, hosiery, gloves and baize

[edit] Weight
The term "worsted" is often applied to any yarn spun from fibres three inches in length or longer
that have been carded or combed, and spun, not just wool. Acrylic and other yarns can be called
"worsted," as much a reference to the weight of the yarn as the production process.

Calculating GDP is extremely important has the performance of the economy is fixed by means
of this method. The results would help the country to forecast the economic progress, determine
the demand and supply, understand the buying power of the people, the per capita income, the
position of the economy in the global arena. The Indian GDP is calculated by the expenditure
method.

By Calculating GDP the performance of the Indian economy can be determined. The
GDP of the country states the number of goods and services produced in a financial year. It is the
yardstick of measuring the functioning of the economy.

Indian Economy-Facts on India GDP

 The Indian economy is the 12th largest in the world

 It ranks 5th pertaining to purchasing power parity (PPP) according to the latest
calculation of the World Bank
 The GDP of India in the year 2007 was US $1.09 trillion
 India is the one of the most rapidly growing economies in the world
 The growth rate of the India GDP was 9.4% per year
 Due to the huge population the per capita income in India is $964 at nominal and $4,182
at PPP

Points to remember while calculating GDP

 Calculating India GDP has to be done cautiously pertaining to the diversity of the Indian
Economy.
 There are different sectors contributing to the GDP in India such as agriculture, textile,
manufacturing, information technology, telecommunication, petroleum, etc.
 The different sectors contributing to the India GDP are classified into three segments,
such as primary or agriculture sector, secondary sector or manufacturing sector, and
tertiary or service sector.
 With the introduction of the digital era, Indian economy has huge scopes in the future to
become one of the leading economies in the world.
 India has become one of the most favored destinations for outsourcing activities.
 India at present is one of the biggest exporter of highly skilled labor to different countries
 The new sectors such as pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, biotechnology,
telecommunication, aviation, manufacturing, shipbuilding, and tourism would experience
very high rate of growth

How to calculate GDP-

The method of Calculating India GDP is the expenditure method, which is, GDP =
consumption + investment + (government spending) + (exports-imports) and the formula is GDP
= C + I + G + (X-M)

Where,

 C stands for consumption which includes personal expenditures pertaining to food,

households, medical expenses, rent, etc
 I stands for business investment as capital which includes construction of a new mine,
purchase of machinery and equipment for a factory, purchase of software, expenditure on
new houses, buying goods and services but investments on financial products is not
included as it falls under savings
 G stands for the total government expenditures on final goods and services which
includes investment expenditure by the government, purchase of weapons for the
military, and salaries of public servants
 X stands for gross exports which includes all goods and services produced for overseas
consumption
 M stands for gross imports which includes any goods or services imported for
consumption and it should be deducted to prevent from calculating foreign supply as
domestic supply

 The speed at which the world economy is moving is truly incredible and in this fast paced
global scenario, the spotlight is on India.

 The Indian economy is growing at a rapid pace and the true emergence of the middle
class is what is driving this growth in our domestic market at an exponential rate which
we have never seen before. With the rise in investments in the economy and decrease in
costs, people's needs have increased in terms of goods and services, different retail
experiences such as malls – all have contributed toward increasing consumer demand.

 India is close to achieving a GDP growth rate of 8% that was projected by the
government for this year. I am optimistic that in the current scenario, the GDP growth
could even touch 10%.

 In this environment, The Raymond Group too has grown at a tremendous pace as made
the most of the global opportunities that the post-quota era presented us while
consolidating our business in the domestic market.
 From being one of the most respected textile companies in the world we are now the

products. Raymond proved its global excellence by being the first Indian company in

crafted using exotic fibres like Cashmere, Angora, Mohair, Bamboo, Casein- a fibre

chemical textile process, to protect it from stain and soil. This treatment puts a protective
shield around the velvet fibres repelling water and oily liquids. Typically, liquid spills
bead up on the surface of the fabric, giving time to blot the liquid away. Flurogard
protection also makes it easier to spot-clean set-in stains even if one is not present when a
spill occurs.
 This ensures the furniture will have "the spotless look" and retain a "new like"
appearance longer regardless of how often the spills occur and the perfect finish will
always be part of your furniture.
 The effectiveness of "Flurogard" Fabric Protector does not lie solely for months or years.
It lies, rather, in the wear and tear on the fabric. As fibres wear out, so do finishes. The
finish will give protection better and longer where the furniture is regularly vacuumed
and where users are careful. Obviously, where furniture use is light, the finish will last
longer than where usage is constant and heavy.

 To cater to the specific requirements of auditoriums, theatres & automobile industry, the
facility to treat the entire product range is available. The fabric is treated with special
chemicals to impart fire resistant property to the fabric.
 Along with manufacturing and brand building, retail is one of the strongest pillars of our

J.K. Ansell Ltd is the manufacturer and marketer of KamaSutra condoms. Its launch was
probably the most significant consumer product launch in India in 1991. The brand deliberately
kept away from the conservative approach in which condoms were shown as being for married
couples only. It used a bold and sensual advertising campaign to position itself as a pleasure
enhancer with its byline "For the Pleasure of making love".

The concept aimed to change the belief that condoms inhibit pleasure. With added features,
variants and appeal KamaSutra was positioned as the brand for enhancing sexual pleasure
instead of restricting it.

The use of refreshing visuals as well as original verses from the KamaSutra as an endorsing
statement - that sexual acts should be pleasurable for both the partners; have successfully broke
through the clutter.

Within a year of its launch, KamaSutra went on to become India 's second largest selling
condom.
