1. United Nations has appointed Indian


official Chandramouli Ramanathan as the
Controller, Assistant Secretary-General for
Programme Planning, Budget and Finance in the Department of
Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC).

2. Dr G C Anupama has been elected president of the Astronomical


Society of India (ASI).

3. Anirban Mukherjee has been appointed as the CEO of PayU India.

1. Union government has approved a three-


year extension of the Credit Linked Capital
Subsidy and Technology Up-gradation Scheme
(CLCS-TUS) for MSMEs with a total outlay
of Rs. 2,900 crores. This scheme will from
2017-18 to 2019-20.

Under this scheme, an upfront capital


subsidy of 15% will be provided to the MSMEs on institutional
finance of up to Rs 1 crore.

2. Bihar government announced a Universal Old Age Pension scheme,


named Mukhya Mantri Vriddha Pension Yojana (MMVPY), the scheme
facilitates the amount of Rs. 400 monthly pension for all in the state
above the age of 60 years.

1. Amazon in partnership with Axis Bank


launched ‘Amazon Pay Unified Payment
Interface (UPI)’ to facilitate secure payments
and financial transactions on its platform.

2. A loan agreement of $40 million was


signed between the Union Government,
Government of Himachal Pradesh and
World Bank, for bringing clean and reliable
drinking water to the citizens of Greater Shimla
area.

3. JP Morgan recently became the first US bank with


cryptocurrency. The bank will be using the cryptocurrency to see its
potential in using digital coins to reduce risk and enable instant transfers.

4.  The government of India gets Rs.10,000 crore from Bharat-22


Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) by additional offering. The government has
till now accumulated approximately Rs.46000 crore by way of disinvestment
through Bharat-22 ETF.

5. A first-of-its-kind ‘Trip Protector’ insurance policy was launched by


HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company for non-life insurance segment
in India.

The policy aims for safeguarding holders financially against the cost of
cancellation levied during cancellation of Air, hotel etc bookings.

6. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India launched a new


microinsurance plan ‘Micro Bachat’ recently. It provides coverage of
up to 2 lakhs.

1. The government has announced new


norms under the definition of Start-Ups.
The new norms are:  

Increasing the investment limit to Rs 25


crore from Rs. 10 crores.

Now an entity shall be considered a start-up


up to 10 years from its date of
incorporation/registration instead of the previous period of 7 years.

The entity would be considered as a start-up up to a turnover of Rs


100 crore as against the earlier limit of Rs 25 crore.

2. Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh


Prabhu, launched SWAYATT which an initiative to promote Start-
ups, Women and Youth Advantage through e-Transactions on
Government e Marketplace (GeM).
Also, a dedicated GeM Start-up Runway-an initiative of GeM in
association with Startup India to facilitate Start-ups registered with
Startup India to access the public procurement market and sell innovative
products and services to government buyers.

3. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), has become the first Indian company
to buy U.S. crude oil by signing   USD 1.5 billion deal for 60,000
barrels.

1. In the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs


(MoHUA)’s Shehri Samriddhi Utsav Raigarh
Municipal Corporation, Chhattisgarh has
won the “Swachhata Excellence award
2019”.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been awarded the first prize
under the “Million Plus Cities” category.

2. The 7th  National Photography Awards were presented recently. The


winner’s list is:

Lifetime Achievement Award: Shri Ashok Dilwali

Professional Photographer of the Year:  Shri SL Shanth Kumar

Amateur Photographer of the Year: Shri Gurdeep Dhiman

3. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) awarded actor-


director Bradley Cooper ‘Oscat’ award for casting his own dog, rather
than one supplied by animal exhibitors, in his movie A Star is Born.

4. Abdul Aziz Muhamat, who was detained in Manus Island in Papua


New Guinea (Capital: Port Moresby, Currency: Kina) was given the
Martin Ennals Award 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland, for exposing “the
very cruel asylum seeker policy of the Australian Government”.

5. Mallakhambh coach-Uday Deshpande and Indian international


batswoman Smriti Mandhana were awarded the Maharashtra State
Government’s Shiv Chhatrapati Award.

1. Inaugurated by PM Modi, the Swachh


Shakti 2019, a convention of Women
Sarpanches was held at Kurukshetra in
Haryana recently.

2. Union Science & Technology Minister, Dr


Harsh Vardhan, inaugurated the 2-day long One Health India
Conference 2019 in New Delhi.

3. 40th  International Annual Desert Festival was recently held in


Jaisalmer (Golden City), Rajasthan.

4. A mega exercise, EXERCISE VAYU SHAKTI-2019 was recently


organised by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Pokhran, Rajasthan.

5. Early Ed Asia 2019, the two-day event, which is Asia’s largest


conference on Early Childhood, was recently held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The motto of the event was: ‘Our Children. Our Future’.

6. The Aero India 2019 was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister


Nirmala Sitharaman at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru.

The Aero India 2019 has a tagline “The Runway to a Billion


Opportunities”.  

7.  The third edition of Confederation of Real Estate Developers


Associations of India (CREDAI), CREDAI YouthCon 2019 was held
recently in New Delhi.

Theme: NexGen – Next Generation.

8. PM Modi inaugurated the PETROTECH -2019, a three-day mega


event at India Expo Centre, Greater Noida, UP.

The theme of PROTECH-2019 was “Shaping the New Energy World


through Innovation & Collaboration”.

stations was also launched at the event.

9. India and the United States conducted the India-US CEO Forum and
India-US Commercial Dialogue in New Delhi, the meeting was chaired
by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Suresh Prabhu.

10. 5th International Dam Safety Conference 2019 was recently held
in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.

11. World Corporate Social Responsibility Congress (World CSR


Congress 2019) which promotes Entrepreneurship, Social Responsibility,
Sustainability and Social Development was recently held in Mumbai.

12. India Medical Device 2019 and India Pharma 2019, fourth edition
of International Conference on Pharmaceutical & Medical Device sector took
place in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Theme: for India Pharma 2019– ‘Enabling Quality Affordable Healthcare’


and that of India Medical Device 2019 – ‘Med-Tech India: Gearing up for
Ayushman Bharat’.

India withdrew the Most Favoured Nation
or MFN Status accorded to Pakistan.

This move would enable India to increase


customs duty on goods coming from Pakistan.
MFN status is given under WTO’s General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).

2. Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) launched a new portal


called 'LADIS' – Least Available Depth Information System in to
ensure optimum use of national waterways.

3. Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal created history by becoming the


first woman flight engineer of Indian Air Force (IAF).  

4. An expert committee led by Anoop Satpath suggested Rs. 9,750


per month or Rs. 375 per day as National Minimum Wage (NMW) for a
worker. Present the NMW is Rs. 4,576.

5. Tapsee Pannu has signed as the brand ambassador of the snack


brand ‘Kurkure’ owned by PepsiCo.

6. Tele-law mobile application ‘Nyaya Bandhu’ was launched by the


Union Minister for Law and Justice, IT Ravi Shankar Prasad.

8. Laureus World Sports Awards 2019 were given recently. The winners
are:
