OUTCOMES:

2nd Grade–
By the end of the unit students were
able to use the concept of texture Bird/ Texture
and apply it to their 3D and 2D art.
The clay birds had lines and details Unit
that created interest. The 2D birds
were huge, had focal points, and
texture created using oil pastels and
watercolor.
EVALUATION/ ASSESSMENT:
This unit was assessed by a rubric
at the end and the beginning was
assessed through group conversa-
tions and experimentation.
The rubric combines both projects
the 2D and 3D projects through fi-
nal outcome.

TIMELINE
Day 1: Students are reintroduced to clay but
going to five stations in five to seven minute
intervals. The five activities are hand building,
cutting out shapes, slip and score, using tools
and hand building.

Day 2: Students make a clay bird by pressing


clay over their thumb, slip and scoring wings,
tail and beak. They are also encouraged to
draw and add texture with toothpicks and other
tools.

Day 3: Students draw and add oil pastels and


crayons to their 2D birds. We review together
focal point, drawing with lines and shapes, and
texture in 2D media.
