Personal note: Two years ago I sat next to Dr.
Jefferson at the closing banquet at the NRLC
Convention. As we enjoyed our meal she told me
of growing up in the south, being the first black
female graduate of Harvard Medical School, what
it was like as a black female doctor in the early
days. I had known Mildred for years, but not well.
Until that night I knew her as a board member who
I couldn’t remember ever seeing without a hat, but
I came to appreciate her so much that night. She
was truly one of the pioneers of the pro-life
movement. She will be greatly missed.

Manhattan Declaration a Year Later: Half a
Million Support Pro-Life Values
The authors penned their
declaration a year ago not
knowing it would spur an
international movement.
Now, nearly a half million backers have signed the
Manhattan Declaration, a call of Christian
conscience originally spurred by concern that U.S.
leaders had lost sight of the meaning of religious
freedom. In the months since, the declaration has
not only reaffirmed Christian values, but has
spawned similar movements on two other
continents and an unprecedented display of
ecumenical unity.
It was President Obama s description of religious
freedom as a right to worship privately as opposed
to freedom of religion that particularly worried the
authors, says Robert George, one of three men who
formed the declaration s drafting committee. The
three agreed that religious freedom should include
a robust right to witness to their Christian faith in
public, and set about drafting a declaration that
reaffirms the Christian understanding of life,
religious liberty, and marriage.
Senator Places Hold on Obama Military
Nominee Over Abortions at Base Hospitals
Washington, DC -- Sen. Roger Wicker, a pro-life
Mississippi Republican, has placed a senatorial
hold on President Barack Obama's nominee for the
Pentagon's top health policy position over a debate
on abortion.
Wicker placed the hold on Obama's nomination of
Jonathan Woodson because the current military
funding bill the Senate is considering contains an
amendment that would overturn the longstanding
policy prohibiting abortions at taxpayer-funded
military base hospitals.
Democrats are expected to push a bill in the Senate
after the elections that would authorize the
abortions after pro-abortion Sen. Roland Burris, an
Illinois Democrat, won committee approval for an
amendment overturning the policy.
The aggressive lame duck session is expected
because Democrats will likely lose a large number
of votes in both the House and Senate -- or
potentially control of one chamber or both -- on
Election Day to pro-life Republican candidates.
Breast Cancer Surgeon Explains How Abortion
Elevates Risk for Women
Washington, DC -- As breast cancer awareness
month winds down, one leading breast cancer
surgeon and professor has written a full
explanation of one of the risks women need to
keep in mind when talking with friends and family
about the deadly disease -- abortion.
Dr. Angela Lanfranchi is a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson
Medical School in New Jersey.
She is a surgeon who, as the co-director of the
Sanofi-aventis Breast Care Program at the
Steeplechase Cancer Center, has treated countless
women facing a breast cancer diagnosis.
Lanfranchi was named a 2010 Castle Connolly NY
Metro Area “Top Doc” in breast surgery.
In an article she wrote for the medical journal
Linacre Quarterly, Lanfranchi talks about why
abortion presents women problems and increases
their breast cancer risk.
Media, Skeptics Miss Rick Santorum's Pro-Life
Values on Abortion, Family

The media missed the real story, once again.
When former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum
appeared in Harrisburg the other night for the
Celebrate Life Banquet benefiting the
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, a reporter
peppered him with questions about a possible
Presidential run. After the story appeared on the
Internet the next day, haters posted vile comments
about Santorum and his ego.
Totally lost was a statement Santorum made during
his banquet speech, that when he lost his Senate
seat on election night a while back he “felt nothing
but gratitude."
He explained how he had been scheduling his life
in five-minute increments and that, in defeat, he
realized what he had been missing and what his
children had been missing.
While he has been appearing as a contributor on
Fox News, his focus the past two years has
definitely been family. In May of 2008, he and his
wife Karen were blessed with a little girl they call
Bella.
Note: Sen. Santorum and his wife Karen lost a
baby named Gabriel. Several years ago I read an
article that Sen. Santorum wrote in a women’s
magazine. He and his wife had been criticized for
not aborting Gabriel after they were told during the
pregnancy that the baby had severe birth defects
that were inconsistent with life. In that article the
senator described how the few hours that Gabriel
lived gave their family the time to say goodbye and
the knowledge they gave him all the love and
caring they could during his few hours after birth.
That experience was recounted in a book named
Letters to Gabriel. This book will give an insight
into the heartbreak of losing a child and how this
family healed after their loss. I recommend this
book to everyone, but have tissues ready for the
tears.
Pollster: Republicans Will Take House From
Pro-Abortion Democrats in Election
Washington, DC-- Pollster Scott Rasmussen, who
runs one of the most respected polling firms in the
nation that is closely tracking the November
elections, predicts Republicans will pick up 55
seats in races for the House of Representatives.
That's well over the 39 needed to recapture the
chamber.
Last week, Ipsos pollster Cliff Young projected a
227-208 split for the GOP.
Should GOP candidates pick up that amount, the
November election will have resulted in a landslide
victory for pro-life advocates.
With pro-abortion Democrats, led by Speaker
Nancy Pelosi, currently controlling the House, the
pro-life movement has been on the defensive as
friends of pro-abortion President Barack Obama
railroaded abortion funding and a pro-abortion
health care bill through Congress.
That could change next month and Republicans,
who will undoubtedly elect pro-life Rep. John
Boehner to become speaker, would pick up the
House for the first time since 2006.
Rasmussen said the bigger question is not whether
the GOP will win the House but whether they will
also capture the Senate, where several election
battles in states like California, Nevada, Colorado,
and Washington pit strongly pro-life against
strongly pro-abortion candidates.
“Republicans should have 48 seats [after the
elections next month], Democrats 47, and five
seats could slide either way,” Human Events
reports Rasmussen saying last night.
Rasmussen considers California, Illinois,
Washington, West Virginia, and Nevada all too
close to call at this point.
Pro-Life Groups Make Last Push for House,
Senate Candidates
Pro-Life groups are making their last, final push for pro-
life candidates and to motivate and encourage pro-life
voters to go to the polls in advance of Tuesday’s
election.
Emily Buchanan, the executive director of the Susan B.
Anthony List, told supporters that her group is not
backing down in face of a complaint from an Ohio
congressman.
Steve Driehaus, a Democrat of Cincinnati, who faces a
tough re-election battle against pro-life candidate Steve
Chabot, filed a complaint with the state elections
commission alleging SBA lied about the abortion
funding in the ObamaCare bill.
“In fact, it only motivates us even more to do everything
we can to ensure major pro-life victories this upcoming
Tuesday,” she said in an email to the group’s members
LifeNews.com received.
“That’s why we’ve increased our television ad buys,
we’re on the radio, we have billboards up, we’re
sending 2.3 million pieces of educational voter mail to
targeted pro-life voters, we’re helping deploy pro-life
activists on buses to key Congressional districts, we’re
doing targeted voter-calls…we’re emptying the war
chest to get the job done,” Buchanan said.
Pro-Life Groups Tell United Nations: Don't
Push for International Abortion
New York, NY (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- A joint
brief submitted this week criticizes a UN
committee's abuse of authority amid a back-door
push for international abortion rights.
This week's petition makes two arguments. It
contends the committee has no authority to suggest
the treaty includes a right to sexual and
reproductive health because the treaty does not
mention the phrase. Second, assuming for the sake
of argument that the treaty contained the language,
the right to sexual and reproductive health does not
include abortion.
