Sport- A Medium of Development and Peace

We cannot stress more on the importance of Sports in our day to day life, says Sri Chandrakant
Patil, the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister of Maharashtra State. It enthrals the
sportsmanship and brings stability throughout a person’s life. Sport increases fitness, boosts
self-confidence, keeps one fit and helps in cultivating a disciplined life. Sports infuses the
competitive spirit and enthusiasm to excel, that is why sports are an integral part of the
academic since childhood, helping the overall development of a child.

Sri Chandrakant Dada Patil would like to take up the opportunity to talk about the importance
of sports on the occasion of IDSDP. Sports has a vast reach and unparalleled popularity. With
a foundation of positive values, united nations have taken up sports as an objective for the
development of peace so much so that in order to raise awareness of this potential, the UN
General Assembly has declared 6th April, every year, to be celebrated as the International
Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP). Many organisations of the UN system
which also includes the international forum on sports, peace and development, have
partnered with the international Olympic committee. These have come up with a mission and
role to place sport at the service of humankind and promote a peaceful society and a healthy
lifestyle. The belief is that, by associating sports with culture and education, we can safeguard
human dignity without any discrimination. The IDSDP event has been observed since 2014.
Objectives of IDSDP:
 The day aims at treating sport as a medium of mental development among people.
 This day also aims at the advancement of human rights, and as well as social and
economic development.
 The organisation strongly believes that sport is an exclusive way that can help mankind
achieve global harmony and brotherhood.
The Agriculture Minister, Sri Chandrakant Patil spoke about some achievers of India while
observing the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
We see that sports not only brings the name but also fame to the country. India has seen
some tremendous achievements in sports, who have proved that our country has emerged
as a tough competitor. Mr. Chandrakant Patil has supported many sportsmen and always
lends his hand in uplifting them. Shri Dada Patil also appreciates the women who tend to step
into sports and emerge victoriously. The Commonwealth game’s gold medallist, Indian
shooter, Tejaswini Sawant has found him as not just the Guardian Minister of Kolhapur, but
guardian along her shooting career too. He went on to remember- Satara’s Mountaineer,
Priyanka Mohite, who scaled the Mt. Everest and the Mt. Lhotse among other peaks. Smriti
Mandhana, who hails from Sangli, western Maharashtra, is an Indian women’s cricket team
member. He also went on to remember some achievers who excelled in sports, like
Mallakhamb coach, Uday Deshpande, Paddler Sanil Shetty, Hockey player Suraj Karkera, Track
and field athlete Siddhant Thingaliya, who specialises in the 110 meters hurdles, and Squash
player Mahesh Mangaonkar. Agriculture Minister Mr. Chandrakant Dada Patil expressed his
happiness in, how his party (BJP) is showing gratitude and recognizing the talents and
awarding them, who are making our country proud. Such awards motivate talents and push
them towards greater achievements. Also, we have seen him supporting Regional sports/
games and sharing his thoughts with the youngsters on the importance of indulging in sports.
He was all praises on remembering a Cricket match which he got to inaugurate. It was the All
India cricket association for the physically challenged in the west zonal T20 tournament held
at Kolhapur. He says there is no limit of will power and talent.
According to Mr. Chandrakant Patil, BJP government is always positive towards the
betterment and progress of sportsman. Shining and bright sportsmen are absorbed in the
government services for better job prospects. The Revenue minister seems happy and
satisfied with the performance of Kolhapur district sportsman on state, national, and
international levels.
Hon. Minister Mr. Chandrakant Patil who is also the Public Works minister, exclaims that
sports are a good medium to spread peace, we come across many championships, matches
and games conducted across to promote the same. It is beautiful to see how sports brings
everyone together, irrespective of any difference. He, further said that his party has been the
one who works towards the upliftment of sports. He aims at supporting sports more and more
for the development and peace further adding on to that under the BJP, many sportsmen
have found strength and have emerged victorious when compared to the previous
governments. He went on to conclude that he and his party will always support the talented
sportsmen.
