Personal Statement

I am organised, motivated person who can remain calm and work well under pressure
either as a part of team or alone. I am capable of meeting tight deadlines and I am committed to
self improvement, learning and adapting to changing times and situations. Dentistry appeals to me
mainly because I want to work in a medical profession.
To be a dentist is my main goal in life. I have the idea of this ambition when I went to
dental clinic and saw the dentist checking the patient's teeth which was really satisfying to
watch. Why be a Dentist? I want to pursue a career in Dentistry for many reasons.
Being a Dentist, you get to aid people and make them feel better about themselves. It is a
career that provides plenty of rewards and challenges as well as an opportunity to help people and
make communities healthier places. I have the personal qualities to be a dentist and know that I
would be great at the job. I would look forward to going to work every day. Besides, entistry is
often referred to as an art. It requires mastery and technique unique to the profession. Dentistry is
largely based on maintaining proper oral health, but is also an aesthetically focused practice. A
large part of dentistry involves restoring teeth and making a smile beautiful, one that the patient is
happy to show to others.
Being in a team and work together is something I am completely possess of. I love to
interact with other people and get to know with each other. I also believed that through
communication can gives you a lots of advantages. You can gain a lots of information from the
expert in doing something. Therefore, I think that dentist is the most suitable career for me as it
requires us to work as a team. Although the dentist is often portrayed as the “lone practitioner,” in
actuality, dentistry is a team-oriented profession. In this field I will get a chance to work closely
with people, on a face to face basis, and as many dental patients tend to stay with the same dentist
for long periods, I will get to know them for a considerable amount of time.
Another reason for choosing this career is that as a profession you are very much in control
of your life. If you become self employed, as many dentists do, then you can pretty much choose
the hours you work, this flexibility appeals to me greatly.
As a individual I feel that I have a calm, reassuring manner, good communication skills
and the ability to relate to people from a wide range of backgrounds. As a bit of a perfectionist,
I’m always looking for ways to improve myself, and I thrive on positive feedback and really
appreciate it when people comment positively about my work.
In short I feel that dentistry is a course suited very well to me, and that I can be an asset to
the dental profession.
