During the 1-week School-based Experience (SBE) stinct in school, I had consulted Miss Evonne, an
English teacher who teaches year 4 students. Miss Evonne faces challenges in the aspect of materials
during the teaching of listening and speaking skills. She said she had problems in selecting the
materials as some of the materials found are foreign to the students and not contextualize to Malaysia.
Regarding this problem, I have designed a lesson plan which the material I created for pupils
are localized. According to Mahabadi(2012), localization of materials would be beneficial to pupils as it
would make the materials more familiar and thus more enjoyable for them. This is because they can
understand the contents better as localized materials can function as bridges that connect English
language with the aid of elements taken from their own native language.
