Leigh has a strong content knowledge of subject matter. She works well with the age group of the students and relates content to real
world examples that the students can easily identify with.

Leigh is doing well in these areas. Her lesson plans are detailed and contain all the major component parts. She includes all the local
and state standards in her plans and how to differentiate instruction using small groups.

Leigh uses her skills as an educator to engage students. During the observation, she was asking questions, and providing
encouragement to struggling students. She catered her instruction individually in the small groups by differentiating instruction to target
gap areas in student knowledge. Her individual coaching and questioning provided the targeted students a chance to catch up on their
reading skills.

Leigh was working with small groups that had been purposely grouped based on their prior reading performance data. Leigh provided
the differentiated instruction needed to meet the instructional goals. During the observation, she also was responsible for documenting a
running record of individual students' reading ability. She worked one on one assessing a student's reading by using reading protocols
developed by the school district. She has fully immersed herself in collecting data of students.

Leigh has high expectations and demands excellence of her students. She manages the class well and is adjusting her management
skills to work with the lower age group students.During the observation, she used patience, encouragement, and firm decision making
to control the class. She is finding that this age level needs clear simple instructions for everything they do.

Leigh is an extremely professional student teacher, who listens intently to critiques. She has prior experience of substitute teaching and
this shows when she interacts with other educators. She is confident and communicates well with other school personnel.

Leigh is off to an excellent start in this area. She is already involved in collecting data and assessing student progress, using reading
assessments. To date, she is using this data to work in specialized small groups to improve the reading ability of students. She will
continue to work on this and other content areas to make informed instructional decisions.
