Samhain 2019
WHAT IS OPEN COVEN?
Open Coven was started as a
response to the result of the 2016
election. Originally a blog, it has
grown in the last two years to
encompass a number of activities to
help promote change in our culture
and world at large and redress the
imbalances in this society.
So far we have hosted several
workshops on using art for magickal
practice, attended protests and
supported community-based
projects through money and time.
We also have a website where we
share news and resources including
a calendar of events offered by
groups and individuals in the
Western North Carolina Area.
SPEAKING OUT THROUGH
ART AND ACTIVISM
Art has a tremendous power.
Creating art, we believe, is
frequently a magickal act in itself.
Poetry, visual media, music etc are
cathartic, inspiring and can open
portals to liminal spaces.
Art can be a powerful message to
promote change. Members of our
collective perform poetry, write
stories and create art that speaks
to the heart of the current social
chaos, but more voices are always
needed, as are more platforms.
