The teacher will show a one and half

Iligan City to the class. The students
will observe and reflect what they have
seen in the video presented.

C. Presentation of the Topic
The video and pictures that I have
presented shows that the cause
is why something happened. The cause
always happens first, even if it isn’t
mentioned first. The effect
is what happened and it occurs after the
cause.
But how can we use complex sentences
to show cause and effect? What is a
complex sentence?
The two ideas could be expressed as two
separate sentences, but they are more
effectively expressed in a complex
sentence. In a complex sentence the two
ideas can be combined in a way that
shows their cause-and-effect
relationship.
How can we combine two ideas?
These are examples of subordinating
conjunctions: for, as, when, since,
therefore, hence, as a result,
consequently, though, due to,
provided that, because of, unless, as a
result of, and so/so that.
For example:
1. John made a rude comment,

Effect
2. There has been an increase in
greenhouse gases,

therefore global warming is
happening.

3. Betty completed each task
perfectly,

therefore she was promoted.

in which at least two ideas are
combined into a single sentence.

as a result of, and so/so that.

Cause and Effect: Matching Game

The teacher will divide the class into
four groups. Each group will be given a
three sentence strips that contains a
cause and three sentence strips on the
other containing the effect. The group
will match three pairs of their members
holding the sentence strips with the
exact cause and effect relationship.
When they’re done, they will share their
answers in front.
(Performing the activity in 5-10 mins.)
