INTRODUCTION

A carbohydrate is an organic compound with the general formula Cm(H2O)n, that is, consists only of carbon,
hydrogen and oxygen, with the last two in the 2:1 atom ratio. Carbohydrates make up the bulk of organic
substances on earth and perform numerous roles in living things. The carbohydrates (saccharides) are divided
into four chemical groups: monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides.
Glucose is a simple sugar which is a permanent and immediate primary source of energy to all of the cells
in the body. Body tries to maintain a constant supply of glucose for cells by maintaining a constant blood
glucose concentration. The value of blood sugar in humans generally ranges from 70 - 100 mg/dl. The blood
glucose level is easily changed under the influence of some external and internal factors such as body
composition, age, physical activity and sex.
