The awkward social interaction at a normal checkout is way better than the potential self-checkout gone
wrong.
permalink embed save parent report reply
But I can usually walk straight to the self-checkout, whereas waiting in a normal line I'll be stuck behind at
least 4 people, thereby increasing time spent and chance for a random encounter.

I bought a mylar balloon for someone's birthday one, and the machine flipped out because I wasn't able to add the

Ive made the change to the order online and pick up and its been a total game changer. The only thing i will go in for
is if i want like deli meat or something else i want to pick out in the meat department. I will run in and my wife will
have them bring the stuff out and then im back by the time their done.

Here in Mexico most stores developed this method and built a counter to receive your purchases. The best part is that
while it's in an adoption process, they pick you the best fruits, good looking cans, leanest meat, and all.
Once the products turn to normal quality I will drop it out.

In my country u have hand scanners instead of those weight things and sometimes they do a check to see if u have
scanned most items. If u missed scanning an item accidentally, you have to go to a normal checkout and load
everything of your cart onto the conveyor-belt and back into your cart and that can be very annoying.
permalink embed save parent report reply
For me, my first world problem is being behind someone who doesn't know that the bagging areas of self checkouts
are scales. You cant put your purse on it, you cant lean on it, you cant let your kids sit on it.

And it's around a knife that you bought to make it easier to open said packaging.
permalink embed save parent report reply
My theory is they do this on purpose so you have to do it the crappy way one last time so you can fully appreciate
what you are opening
permalink embed save parent report reply
Fun fact, if you use a can opener not only does it easily open but you can also reseal it. Had to return an item once in
the original packaging, they probably thought that was impossible until they got mine back.

I can't get a can opener to do this. Everyone talks about it, but the few times I tried, it doesn't open shit. Maybe it's
the design of my can opener. :(

I'm beginning to think this problem isn't so much a first world as it is a specifically American problem.
Case in point when I was taking a vacation to South Korea and Japan a few years back I noticed that while they still
put products in the hard clam shell packaging they just tape or soft glue the two halves shut. Just a single good pull
was all it ever took to open anything.
Unlike in the States where it takes a pair of bolt cutters and an iron-will.

I mind less because they had completely fucked the genre system by cross-filing everything so you'd see Seventh
Seal listed as a Rom-Com because someone talks about missing their wife in it.
permalink embed save parent report reply
That genre system made the Babadook a gay rights icon, pretty funny story.
permalink embed save parent report reply
I stayed at a friend's house while on vacation and it felt like I was using an entirely different service. Their Netflix
recommendations were amazing and things that never show up for me so I didn't know existed. I found so many
new shows on someone else's account because Netflix's algorithm pigeon-holed me long ago.
permalink embed save parent report reply
Their browsing system keeps feeding me shows that it thinks I want to watch. My wife and I have objectively
different experiences. I wish I could shut that recommendation system off.
The very reason I'm browsing is to find something I didn't know I wanted. If I wanted to keep rewatching Stargate
SG-1 I wouldn't need anyone to recommend it to me.

I think most people, myself included, don't buy games we have 0 interest in on their own.
Most people with tons of games get them as part of a bundle. Like both you and me. Relatedly, we also tend to catch
them on other sales. "Hey that looked interesting. I wanted to play it. Oh and its cheap right now too!" Is mainly how
I have bought games in the past. And then they never get back to them.

In my apartment building the laundry room has an app. You load up money on the app (like paypal kinda),
select your washer or scan the code, then press go and it debits your account. Its actually pretty slick as it
will also send you a push notification when your clothes are done. Now our washers have a coin slot
backup if your phone dies or the system goes down. However, I was in a dorm situation during a summer
one time and those washers either needed the app or the credit card. If internet goes down there, it can't
authorize anything.

Not having a job so you have to live off the money the government gives you. Having a job but it pays a tiny wage
barely enough for food and rent and bills but still more than 90% of the world earns.

Anti-science isn't exclusively a first world problem. There are fortune tellers and witch doctors on every street in
Africa.

I’m more lenient towards the people in Africa who believe in bullshit than people in the US who believe the earth is
flat. People in most African countries don’t have the same access to education as people in the US. There’s no
excuse to being a fool in the US.

It's not. But it feels more annoying in first world, because well, we have no excuse to be embracing ignorance
when we have so much access to facts. < > discussions in r/AskReddit X

There’s psychics and tarot readers here too. It’s just that most people either use it as entertainment or
confirmation bias and not...actual life advice.
I suppose in other places they might have religious/cultural significance though.

Anti-intellectualism in general. Idiots being proud of their ignorance and refusing to budge even after shown validated
facts is sooo frustratingly 2019.

That's been an issue in democracy forever. The "know nothing" movement. Our politicians have been proudly
advertising their lack of intellectual credentials as long as we've had them. Fuck, Thomas Jefferson was revering
the noble farmer vs the greedy industrialist back before the USA was founded.

Happened to me earlier today. Game crashed half way through a quest it took forever to do over.

CLEAN water from a NICE toilet splashing you in your FRESHLY SHOWERED balls.

When you reach over to grab some water on the nightstand and accidentally spill it over your phone, tablet, wallet
and have to wake tf up and dry everything off really fast and you still don’t even get your water.

Calling Comcast. Trying to navigate their VRU, finally getting to a person, then finally speaking to "John" or "Sally",
who are entirely unable to help you, eventually being hung up on when they say they need to transfer you to another
department.

Oh hey I think I have a good story here. Recently I was coming home from work and I was out of my fancy flavored
bubbly water, so I decided to stop at the grocery on my way back. I realized that I had left my wallet at home, no big
deal, "I'll just use my phone to pay" I thought. Nope. Phone was on 3% battery and apparently Samsung Pay does not
work at that level of charge.
Luckily I had my wall charger with me, unluckily I didn't have the usb car charger. I had to walk up and explain my
situation to an employee and then ask them if there were any outlets I could plug my phone into for a few minutes so
that I could buy some raspberry flavored carbonated water.

On the highway: fast lane hogs. People who sit in the overtaking lane, without overtaking, and thereby effectively
making it impossible for everyone/anyone gong faster to pass. Especially if they deliberately match the speed of the
vehicle in the lane next to them.

People who are offended when you don't text back within minutes. Put a break on it, Karen. I'm at work and I'll get
around to you when I have a minute.

I don't text when I'm at work because I gotta Reddit. I also don't text when I'm at home because I want peace and
quiet. I don't text when I'm driving because I am busy dodging texters. but I do text when I wake up and before I go
to bed so nobody responds right away.

When the wifi signals act up again as you sleep and they accidentally transmit classified military information into your
brain. It's violating in and of itself, but what's worse is now every time a cop looks longer than a second at me I get
paranoid because I think he thinks that I'm an agent. Even the cashiers' smiles look kind of insincere and yesterday I
bit on some sort of silicone wafer that was floating in my cereal. What is that about?? It's ridiculous to complain about
I know, but I'm on edge right now

When my Starbucks order is wrong and I have to again have the internal fight between the social anxiety of asking for
it to be remade and the cheapskate in me that can't stand paying $5 for a beverage I won't really enjoy.

How absolute dogshit my wifi is. And how I bought a massive ethernet cord to counteract the problem. And now how
the cord is broken and I’ve been forced to use the shit wifi again.
