Abstract
In this assignment I will be analyzing the career path of women in a high positions. I will
be specifically looking into what our marketing director Jaquelynn Judd does on a day to day
basis. Whipple service champions is about a medium sized company where we have about 100
employees. That being said, I understand that this position in a bigger company, may be very
different from this one. I will also be exploring what it means and what it is like to be a women
Job description
As a marketing director, you are responsible for overseeing all marketing campaigns.
They need to be continuously looking at marketing trends and what their target audience is
doing. This is a very important job because they play huge role on whether or not the company is
successful. A company may have great products and customer service, but if the marketing isn’t
right. Then they won’t succeed. They also are looking at what kind of reputation the company
has. The marketing director at our company is constantly looking at what people say about us
online whether it is good or bad. Their job is to highlight what is good and put it out there, and
resolve the bad so our customers don’t have a bad impression on us before they even get the
chance to try us out (“What does a marketing Director do?” 2017). Especially at a time like this
where people go on websites like google and yelp before they call anyone, the marketing director
It is hard to get a job on marketing when you first get your degree, so many companies
allow you to do an intern and give them ideas on how to benefit the company. Both parties
benefit from this because students can get great experience, and companies can get great work
without paying as much. Another way is to get into a small company. Those companies are
usually the ones that are willing to help an entry level marketer get a chance, because they don’t
Although people can get into marketing by a variety of different ways, most people look
for certain degrees when looking for a new marketing hire. Bachelor’s degree in marketing,
business, journalism, and communications can be very helpful in the day to day tasks. However,
business administration, accounting, business law, management, and economics degrees can be
very helpful. Along with all of the following degrees, employers are usually always looking for
Average salary
A marketing director on average makes about $114,950 a year, but it can be anywhere
from 72 thousand to 164 thousand a year (“Marketing Director,” 2019). On Glassdoor it gives
you an average of what people say they make, so this include women. However, it is known that
we have a wage gap where many women aren’t getting paid fairly. Right now women are earning

about 80 cents for every dollar a man makes, and this gap is even bigger for women of color like
myself (Carpenter, 2018). Unfortunately, I also did learn that only 61% of men actually believe
that a wage gap exists. That is very frustrating because that is why the wage gap is effecting
women. I believe that once everyone comes to an understanding and acceptance that the wage
gap is true and effecting many women. We will be able to begin to reverse those effects put on all
of us.
Career outlook
In this career choice you can be as optimistic as you want to be. This is one career where
you don’t have to worry about your job as long as you are doing a great job in marketing your
company or product. You decide how great you want to be, by putting in the work. I also like
this career, because you are able to see if you are doing a good job or not. This is highly
I was able to interview the marketing director for the company that I work for. Her name
is Jacquelynn Judd, she was born in Provo but moved out to Salt Lake City when she was 20
years old. She studied marketing and business management at Utah Valley University and the
University of Utah. After graduating, she worked for a marketing coordinator in park city that
did jobs for loan companies all over the west coast. I found it really interesting that nice years
ago she attempted to work here at Whipple service champions as a CSR, which is my position,
but wouldn’t get hired. Then two years later they opened up a position for a marketing director
and she was running up against 15 other potential employees. She got the job and worked here

with the accounting manager and the owner Kent Whipple. Just one year after she was hired, the
owner decided to retire and Jacquelynn had to step up to the plate and take help to keep the
company afloat. She said that because she kind of took the role of all positions, the owner
eventually made her the COO. She expressed how it was rare for someone to move up so
quickly, but it happened to be the right time and place. Jaquelynn plans to be at Whipple for as
long as possible, but does admit the marketing is the most stressful part of her job even more
than being the COO. “When the company isn’t doing well, all fingers are pointed to me” she
said.
One huge advantage in being a marketer, is being able to directly see how well you are
doing. You are a big part of a company’s success, but that is also where a disadvantage comes
because you have a lot on your shoulders. Whether the companies is doing good or not is a
reflection of yourself as a marketer. Of course, there are some outside forces that have nothing to
do with the marketing, but the marketing of a company is vital. It is a highly stressful round the
clock job. You need to constantly be thinking of new innovative ways to market your company or
product.
After really getting to understand what marketing really means, I’m not 100 percent sure
this is the career with me. This is a position that could make or break a company and something
that comes with a lot of pressure on your performance. I do see a lot of aspects of this position
that I would actually really love though. Being able to be creative and getting immediate

satisfaction from a job well done would be two big reason as to why I would go into this career.
As long as I am doing my job, I don’t have to be worried. It is definitely a career choice I would
