PERSONALITY DIMENSIO NS IN ACTION

1.) Blue: This colour describes me perfectly. I am very empathetic and sensitive to
conflict. I understand that everyone has a history, and no two are alike. I enjoy peace and
harmony, and I will always lend a hand to those in need. I do have a difficult time saying no to
anyone, and I sometimes set unrealistic goals. However, I have been working on these.

Gold: As a mother, student, and wife, I need to have organization in my routine. If I do

not have some sort of list of tasks available, I find it incredibly hard to focus on one thing. It
really helps me to write things down; and, when I complete a task, and cross it off, it leaves me
feeling accomplished.

Green: Quite often, I prefer to be in a quiet space, where I am comfortable; I feel less
pressured and better focused. I believe this is when I do my best work. I do believe it is
important for me to continue to work on these skills to improve as a person.

Orange: This colour is not my favourite. I am not a person who enjoys adventure or taking
risks. I do not react well in emergency situations, as I tend to panic, and speaking in front of
large groups is avoided at all costs. Although, during my trip to P.E.I. last month, I did open
myself up to exploring and trying new things.

2) Blue: I care about other people, and often empathize with them, sometimes to a fault.
I get very emotional, I am the type of person who will cry, no matter the emotion I’m
experiencing. It has come to a point where I cannot even watch emotional movies or television
shows, nor can I listen to sad songs. My husband, who is dominantly an Inquiring Green, has
come to accept how emotional I get. He is a great support to rationalize with.

Orange: I very much dislike speaking in front of crowds; which, is odd, seeing as I used to
enter vocal competitions as a child. However, as I have grown, I have become more introverted,
and I greatly appreciate my own space. When I must speak in front of crowds, my voice shakes
and my heart pounds quickly. I am also not good in emergency situations; I tend to panic and
am not able to focus clearly.

3a) I’ve always enjoyed data entry. I worked as a Project Manager Assistant in Prince
Edward Island for five years. At one point, the company was sold, and there was a major
transition in project software. Several thousand files had to be transferred over to the new
program, and the import/export process was not entirely successful. The result was having to

manually enter a few hundred files. While I did not enjoy the deadline we were under, I did
enjoy the satisfaction I felt after each file was complete. We met the deadline.

3b) Working well with others, understanding people, listening and communicating, and
thought sharing will help me in my journey as an office administrator. Creative thinking, having
strong instincts, and writing skills will also help me. All these combined, will demonstrate that I
am an open, approachable, hard-working individual, who is capable of clear communication.

3c) I would share that I am dependable and very hard working, I enjoy being organized and I
work well with others. I like learning new things and clear communication is key. I have stayed
late, covered other people’s sick days, and taken on supervisory roles when no one else was
available during my time as a waitress. As a Project Manager Assistant, I demonstrated
excellent communication skills, I was well organized, and routinely took on additional work
from our head office.

4a) As a waitress, I would sometimes have to deal with difficult customers. I have been
yelled about everything; from pickles, to fries, and beer. On one occasion, I declined alcohol
service to a male, as he did not have the proper identification. He asked to see my manager,
who also denied him, and a verbal conflict ensued. I do not like confrontation or conflict of any
kind. It made me uncomfortable and bothered me for several days after. I truly believe
everyone deserves peace, and it bothers me when someone disrupts mine.

4b) I would share with he/she that I do not enjoy leading others, nor am I a fan of public
speaking. However, I would discuss how I’ve been working to improve my speaking skills by
using cue cards and practicing at home. Also, I would point out that as a waitress, I took on
leadership roles. Not because it was my job, but because there was no one else there and it had
to be done.

5a) I once had a co-worker who was very negative and stubborn. She was a lady
approximately 30 years older than me, and she was firmly set in her ways. I did not always
agree with the way she worked, as it was not brand standard. She was a lady who was
extremely clear and direct, needed to be in control, and preferred to work without supervision.

5b) I believe this person was a Resourceful Orange.

5c) In retrospect, I believe that a private, cool-headed conversation would have been
beneficial to rectify the situation. I would have preferred to start an open dialogue with her,
and calmly speak with her about why I had issues. I would also share with her the struggles that

I had at first following the standard, but why, after time, I saw how beneficial it was. I would
have tried to relate with her and understand that she may be experiencing stress in her life.

6) The biggest lesson that I have learned from the Personality Dimensions activity, is that I
really do value what other people think of me, and I want to be liked and respected. I also
noticed that I set very high goals for myself; a bit too ambitious.
