Philosophy/ Mission
Every child is unique in their own way. Each child grows at their own
developmental level and each child comes from a family that have their own
beliefs and values. As a future early childhood educator, I believe it is our
responsibility to understand the child as a whole and base our curriculum according
to the child’s needs. As future educators we should set up a high quality classroom
environment where the child can grow, learn, and explore at his or her own
developmental level. I will be talking about the goals of teaching and ways to
accomplish them. My philosophy will talk about what kind of teaching style I feel
is the best for all the different children in my classroom.
● I believe that a child should be able to learn and develop at their own pace.
Some educators that I see sometimes get frustrated at the child for how slow
they might be learning in their classroom. There's nothing wrong with how
slow the child is wanting to learn that’s just how they are in their own way.
● With my philosophy I encourage all family members to be their child’s first
teachers in life. Each family member is every child’s first role model and
someone who they look up to. Family is a very important and the first in all
ECE programs.
● My specific curriculum approach on learning would be play since all
children learn better that way. As well as making sure that the children in the
classroom feel as they were at home and can be able to learn without feeling
scared or shy in the classroom.
● Promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each
child. As physiologist Jean Piaget states, “ a student’s efforts come from the
student himself instead of being imposed and that his intelligence undertakes
authentic work instead of accepting predigested knowledge from outside, it
is simply asking that the laws of all intelligence be respected” (Dunlap,
1997). Then this can be done by using the developmentally appropriate
practice approach.
● Finally, I believe that we as future educators we need to all be great role
models for our children. We need to be able to teach children right from
wrong. Then as the child gets older they look back and see all their educators
and appreciate how much they have learned. My philosophy will reach to all
children that come my way and to their families.
