Objective (Explicit):
 Students will explore the events of present day issues of hate and answer the driving
question, “why do people hate?” with their own ideas
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):
 Include a copy of the lesson assessment.
 Provide exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see.
 Assign value to each portion of the response

 Students will first answer the question, “why do people hate?” and talk about it in their
groups
 Students will look at some present day issues and talk about where the hate originated and
what is different in the time of the pre civil war
