The Purpose of this assessment is to help me create a better learning and enriching
opportunities for my students. Students will investigate the ways in which artists represent their
identities through a black, gray, white self portrait, by analyzing and interpreting the visual
aspects of art elements and principles, materials, techniques, processes, and context. Students
will be offered several options regarding the form of the assessment task, including guided note
taking, graphic organizers, webercise with interactive's, drawing exercises, and mid/final
critique. The students will also be provided with materials in class along with resources, in case
he/she need additional support.
This project will enable students to use 21st century skills and will promote self discovery
and diversity. It is expected that teachers could present students with artworks that reflect many
different art forms including both traditional and contemporary works. The definition of a self
portrait should be developed in class and by the end of the unit. Students will have to turn in a
final product and will receive verbal feedback from peers and teacher, attached with a rubric
