LA ESTRUCTURA DE LA ORACIÓN

Al igual que en nuestra lengua, las oraciones en inglés contienen básicamente una frase
nominal con un sustantivo como núcleo y una frase verbal con un verbo principal y sus
complementos. Son los elementos necesarios y obligatorios para construir una oración:

Communication + is+ a complex process

The world + changes + rapidly

Everybody + can learn + another

language

The ecosystem + is being destroyed

Technology + has created + a new world

LA FRASE NOMINAL

El núcleo en la frase nominal en inglés es un sustantivo, nombre o pronombre. Algunas frases

tienen una lectura y traducción iguales o muy similares a nuestra lengua:

The ecosystem: ___________________________

The invention of science: ___________________________

En otros casos, se debe buscar la traducción adecuada, ya sea agregando o sacando palabras:

*al generalizarse, algunos sustantivos en ingles no llevan artículo.

Adjetivos terminados en –ing: an interesting person

Adjetivos terminados en –ed: an interested person

Adjetivos compuestos: man-made/ good-looking/ well-built/

*los adjetivos pueden estar pre-modificados por adverbios: ej: highly complex system

PRONOMBRES POSESIVOS: ITS- HER- HIS – MY – OUR – THEIR- YOUR

OTROS SUSTANTIVOS: behavior patterns

 El sustantivo en inglés, al igual que en nuestro idioma, se puede modificar hacia la

izquierda (premodificación) y/o hacia la derecha (posmodificación). Sin embargo, una
de las características principales del inglés es que el adjetivo o sustantivo que modifica
al sustantivo nucleo se ubica a la izquierda de éste.
 Preposiciones: IN ON UNDER OF FROM BETWEEN FOR, ETC. Se ubican después del
sustantivo núcleo: AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY IN CHINA
