Pakho Picasa Biography Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain on Ocvober 28, 1881. He was the first child of Don Jose Ruiz y Blasco, an art teacher, and Maria Pieasso y Lopez. At an early age Ficasso showed a passion and skill for drawing, According to his mother, his first words were “piz, piz”, a shortening of lépiz, the Spanish word for ‘pencil’ Atthe age of 7, Pablo began receiving art instruction from his father. His father was a treditional, academic artist and instructor who bolioved that proper training required disofplined copying of the masters, and drawing the human body from plaster casts and live models, In 1898, Pablo's father accepted a position at Barcelons's School of Fine Arts. Ruiz persuaded the officials at the academy to allow his son to take an entrance exam for the advanced class. ‘This process often took students a month, but Picasso completed It In a.wook, and tho improscod jury admitted him at just 13 years old. Asa student he lacked discipline but made friends and continued to grow as an artist. At the age of 18, Pablo's father enrolled him in Spain's most distinguished art school, Madrid's Royal Academy of San Fernando. However, his instruction at the Royal Academy lasted only a short time as he struggled to accept formal instruction. In spite of these difficulties, his time in Madrid was not wasted. Pablo visited Madrid's museums and saw the paintings of Diego Velasquez and Francisco Goya, though It was the works of El Greco that he admired most. In 1900, Picasso made his first trip to Paris. By 1906 Picasso became a favorite of the American art collectors Leo and Gertrude Stein, and soon she became Picasso's principal patron, acquiring his drawings and paintings. It was through them that Picasso met French artis: Henri Matisse, The two became lifelong friends, In 1907, Picasso painted one of his most important works - Les Demolselles d’Avignon,- creating with painter and sculptor Georges Braque the brand new art movement known es "Cubism". Pablo Picasso died on April 8, 1975 in Mougins, France. He is best remembered as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramioist, and stage designer.
