Tam a citizen of the Republic of Mauritius where my rights are guaranteed under the Constitution, 2. 1 was previously the Commanding Officer of the Special Mobile Force and the Commissioner of Police of the Mauritius Police Force. 3. In the year 2014, I stood as candidate in the General Elections in Constituency No.9 Flacq/Bon Acceuil and I was elected as the first member of the National Assembly. 4. In the same Year | was appointed Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Disaster and Beach Management by the President of the Republic. 5. On the 23" March 2016, following a broadcast on Radio Plus regarding an ATTORNEY-AT-LAW 2nd Floor, Chancery House Tel: 208-1667 / 5780 7724 allegation of corruption against me, I was directed to attend the office of then Prime Minister Sir Aneerood Jugnauth in the presence of another Minister Mr. z = < 4 < a = < = - > 2 < N < a Roshi Badhain. 6. During the said, meeting, the then Prime Minister ordered me to step down immediately as Minister based on the broadcast on Radio Plus on an allegation of corruption made against me that I had solicited money. 7. I vehemently denied the allegations against me and informed the Prime Minister that I would not step down and that the allegations made against me were false, malicious and unfounded. In the year 20: ye 16, soon after the allegations were made, I was provisionally charged for having solicited money from Mr. Shaheed Nawab Soobhany. 10.In tl fhe year 2017, I was formally charged and prosecuted before the Intermediate Court not for soliciting money but for the offence of soliciting gratification. 11. Ihave pleaded NOT GUILTY to the said charge and I reiterate that: 1am innocent; Iwas forced to step down because I had allegedly solicited money; Thave been subjected to an objection to departure; Thad to be bailed out for an allegation which I vehemently deny; Ihave never solicited any money nor any form of gratification; Ihave never received any money nor any form of gratification; Ihave never accepted any money nor any form of gratification; 1am being wrongly prosecuted; lama victim of a conspiracy; Jama victim of a serious miscarriage of justice; and (xi) _ therefore my stepping down as Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Disaster and Beach Management had no “raison d’étre” 12, aver that the facts set out above are true to the best of my personal knowledge.
