The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home
appliances, other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators,
and connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. Each
thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able
to inter-operate within the existing internet infrastructure.
IoT allows objects to be sensed or controlled remotely across existing network
The infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the
physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved
efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit in addition to reduced human
intervention. When IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the technology
becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber-physical systems, which
also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, virtual power plants, smart
homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities.
Applications:
The applications for internet connected devices are extensive. Multiple
categorizations have been suggested, most of which agree on a separation
between consumer, enterprise (business), and infrastructure applications. George
Osborne, the former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, posited that the Internet
of things is the next stage of the information revolution and referenced the inter-
connectivity of everything from urban transport to medical devices to household
appliances.
The ability to network embedded devices with limited CPU, memory and power
resources means that IoT finds applications in nearly every field. Such systems
could be in charge of collecting information in settings ranging from natural
ecosystems to buildings and factories, thereby finding applications in fields
of environmental sensing and urban planning.
Manufacturing:
The IoT intelligent systems enable rapid manufacturing of new products,
dynamic response to product demands, and real-time optimization of
manufacturing production and supply chain networks, by networking machinery,
sensors and control systems together.
Building and home automation
IoT devices can be used to monitor and control the mechanical, electrical and
electronic systems used in various types of buildings (e.g., public and private,
industrial, institutions, or residential) in home automation and building
automation systems. In this context, three main areas are being covered

ARM 7 LPC2148:
ARM stands for Acorn RISC machine is a family of instruction set
architectures for computer processors based on a reduced instruction
set computing (RISC) architecture. And in simple word ARM is
“Processor Achitecture “.
ARM7 is greatest success family in embedded system application.
So here we learn ARM7TDMI based NXPs controller.
ARM7 is balance between new Cortex series and old start up. it is
neither too old technology nor latest.
ARM7 family is excellent for beginners as per my opinion, because
it gives real depth idea about hardware and software implementation
& integration by using appropriate IDE.
LPC2148 is the widely used IC from ARM-7 family. It is
manufactured by Philips (NXP) and it is pre-loaded with many
inbuilt peripherals making it more efficient and a reliable option for
the beginners as well as high end application developer.

AT89S52:
Low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with
8KB of ISP flash memory.
The device uses Microchip high-density, non-volatile memory
technology and is compatible with the industry-standard 80C51
instruction set and pinout.
On-chip flash allows the program memory to be reprogrammed in-
system or by a conventional non-volatile memory programmer.
This powerful microcontroller is suitable for many embedded
control applications.
Atmel has also created an LP (low power) series of these chips with
a "Single Cycle Core", making the execution speed of these chips
considerably faster.
