Col Stouffer is the wing commander and his opening remarks are to welcome everyone who is
coming to learn for the day. He will go over the plan of events and will explain what being part of
Team MacDill is all about.
Col Evernham is the group commander and she is also a pilot. She will not only talk about what it is
like to be a woman in the military but also a pilot in the military. She will give her experiences from
the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. She has over 30 years of military experience. She is a
mother as well and can speak on the hardship she’s faced while being in the “boys club” that is
the old Air Force.

of Pregnancy in the U.S. Military, Women's Studies in Communication, 41:1, 22-41, DOI:

I chose this article because it talks about how women in the military still face a little bit of a bad
name when it comes to them trying to raise a family but also trying to stay fit for duty. An example
that I’ve witnessed is when a female is tasked to deploy, she gets pregnant and that forces
someone else to go in her place in a short notice situation. Even though getting pregnant isn’t
always a planned thing, airmen both men and women alike judge the person for getting pregnant
and that isn’t right. The reason why SSgt Torres is going to talk about this topic is because she just
had a baby and is coming off her maternity leave which she can answer a lot of questions
pertaining to this subject. This link https://www.afpc.af.mil/Benefits-and-Entitlements/Leave-
Program/ talks about the leave rules for both the parent giving birth and the spouse who didn’t.

Embodiment in Women’s Health Apps, Women's Studies in Communication, 41:2, 183-

The reason why I picked this article to speak about is because, even though there is an app that says it
pertains to women of all body shapes and types, it still shows the stereotypical skinny “fit” woman as their
poster woman. This could keep women from actually striving to reach a goal that they set from themselves
and want them to make changes in their diets and workout plans. SSgt Dover is someone who has taken
courses on how to properly improve the body mentally and physically with both weight training and a
balanced diet based on the person’s body type. She has over 5 years of training experience and can
answer the questions asked by women trying to achieve a physical fitness goal. I’ve also linked the

standards for the fitness test the Air Force gives every year.

The base resources are going to be used for those who are seeking more information about what has been
talked about today. They are well equipped to help those in need and also to help those who are looking to
make things easier. This lesson plan for today is the first of many training day opportunities for the future.
Women in the military isn’t anything new relatively speaking, people get promoted and put into leadership
roles not based on the gender or sex they are but by their ability to do their job.
