INTRODUCTION

In our daily life, people make decisions: what time to wake

up, what clothes to wear, what breakfast to eat, how to get to

work, what time to go home – the list of decisions to be made is

virtually endless. In life, decision-making is unavoidable.

When trying to make a good decision, a person must weigh the

positives and negatives of each option, and consider all the

alternatives. For effective decision making, a person must be able

to forecast the outcome of each option as well, and based on all

these items, determine which option is the best for that particular

situation.

This study focuses on Engr. Romeo Estabillo who went to

Santiago City to organize his own construction firm, he always

dreamed of starting independently on his own. Few years of

operation, as he grew and gained experience, his clients grew more

and more in numbers.

At the start, he hired two assistants to help him in his daily

routine as a contractor. One of the two assistants, Mr. Silvino

Santiago. His main tasks was a draftsman. The second assistant,

Mr. Romulo Mamaril, was assigned to coordinate purchasing,

bookkeeping, and other related administrative activities.

At the 3rd year of his operation, two more female employees

were hired to assist in the various task in the office. By 1994,

Engr. Estabillo reviewed his company’s payroll and it indicated

that he had a total of 20 employees and the others were only

contractual.

On June 1996, Engr. Estabillo felt that business were growing

so much, and thinks that he needed to secure four more Civil

Engineers on a full-time basis. As he was directly supervising all

operations, his performance will not effectively push through with

the plan. So he wants to make a decision, he thinks operation now

are much more complex, with this thoughts, he pondered on how he

will go about solving the problem.

PROBLEM

1. Would Engr. Estabillo add more Civil Engineers or they will

continue to work with his ongoing team?

2. How do the four additional Engineers can be help to Engr.

Estabillo?

together” – Vincent Van Gogh

BODY

Engr. Gilbert Amboy

States: “In this situation, making decision is hard. I think

that Engr. Estabillo can handle this situation because he becomes

successful in his construction firm once. If I were Engr. Estabillo

having four additional engineers will do a lot even if Engr.

Estabillo is not around, they can lead the project and make the

work efficient.”

Engr. Ricardo Sibayan

States: “His decision-making is the best solution in this

situation. Based on his story, Engr. Estabillo becomes his

construction firm successful because he became a good decision

maker and perform effectively and efficiently with regards to his

responsibility and duties as an organizer of his construction firm.

So that I suggest to him that this four additional engineers is a

big help because they can accept more projects and consume less

time and effort for Engr. Estabillo.”

CONCLUSION

Based on the answer of my references on Engr. Estabillo’s

story, Engr. Estabillo’s decision-making is a big factor to start

a new business and be and engineer manager. To become successful

like Engr. Estbaillo, we need to take risks in making decisions

because when you decide, maybe the outcome is positive or negative,

it always affects your career, your performance and all the factors

in your work.

I conclude that the four additional civil engineers will do

a great contribution in Engr. Estabillo’s continuously growing

construction firm because even if he is not around but, still his

construction firm will operate effectively and efficiently.
