INTRODUCTION

In modern life style, almost in every house there is calling ball

system for visitors. In beginning days, call balls were operated by
mains line directly and if the person keeps running it continuously,
certainly it gets damage. Now a days, electronic musical door bells
are very widely in use working on low dc voltages by pencil batterel
using some semiconductors, resistances, capacitors etc. We can
construct it very easily. But before working on any project we must
have some basic knowledge and ideas about the components using in
it.

[1] INTEGRATED CIRCUIT (IC) :- An IC is treated as a packed

electronic device suitable for a defined operation. Today, many types
of ICs are commonly available to satisfy our demands to design any
type of electronic equipments. The same equipment, on the other
hand, can also be designed using concept of discrete circuit where
separate in the circuit. Obviously, the equipment fabricated using ks
much lighter weight and miniature size then of discrete circuit
concept.

Here in the present circuit, UM66 is an integrated circuit which

produces musical notes.
[2] CAPACITOR : - The capacitor is made of two different conduction plates
separated by an insulation material called ‘dielectric’ the conducting plates may
be of any geometrical shape. It may be polarized type is called electrolytic
capacitor having terminals positive (+) and negative (-). Its symbol is
. The non-polarised is indicated as . The capacitors may be charged or
discharged. Its measuring unit is ‘farad’.

[3] RESISTANCE : - The resistance is a measure of the property of a substance

due to which the passes of electric current is opposed. The substance which
offers a very little resistance is called a good conductor of electricity and that of
very large resistance is called an insulator. The measuring unit of resistance is
‘ohm’ (Ω). Resistance is symbolically denoted as

[4] TRANSISTOR : - The transistor is a semiconductor composed of an emitter,

a base and a collector. It is of two types NPN and PNP. If a very thin layer of p-
type plate in between two n-type plates is composed then NPN transistor is
formed. Similarly when a very thin layer of n-type plate is composed in between
two p-type plates, then PNP transistor is formed.

Symbolically the NPN and PNP transistors are indicated as

and
[5] SPEAKER : - It is a device to convert electrical signals into sound
signals. It is made of a permanent magnet, a voice coil, a diaphragm
etc. Its symbol is
[6] BELL-PUSH TYPE SWITCH : - It is a special type on – off
mechanical switch. If we press it, it makes a contact and as soon as
we release our figure, it automatically switched off. It is also called
‘push-to-on’ switch. Its symbol is

REQUIRED COMPONENTS

Integrated Circuit (IC) – UM66

Transistor – NPN Type
Resistors – 47kn,10k
Capacitors – C1 -10000µfd/10V
C2 -1000µfd/ 10V
Speaker – 8 Ω, 0.5 W Bell-push
type switch – s1
Battery – pencil type
Connecting wire
Multipurpose copper board
Soldering iron, solder, flux, etc.
PROCEDURE

Taking all the required components, we insert it on the

multipurpose copper board according as circuit diagram. We solder
the components leads with solder and flux and complete the required
connection. The speaker and bell-push switch are mounted firmly on
a suitable space of enclose and then joined by some flexible wire with
the circuit board. The battery is also fitted in its compartment and the
two wires positive and negative are joined with main circuit board is
switch as in the circuit diagram. Thus, we join and complete the entire
connections.

PRECAUTIONS

While constructing this project, I took some precautions as – (1)

The components we used of appropriate values and remarks.

(2) The soldering was done very carefully such that there should not
be overheating of components as well as not dry solder joints.

(3) The semi-conductors and electrolytic capacitors were connected

in its right polarity.

(4) Before switching on the system, it was checked twice again.
