Objectives: Students will view and discuss a variety of Public Service Announcements on distracted and
drunk driving. Students will participate in activities using Drunk Buster goggles and describe how
distractions can hinder your driving ability.

Differentiation: Students will work with technology to create a PSA (public service announcement) about
Distracted Driving and their experience wearing the impaired goggles. Students with special needs will be
assisted by a teacher or aide.

ENGAGEMENT:

Students will use technology to watch videos of public service announcements on distracted and drunk
driving.

Assessment: Students will be assessed by their involvement and participation with videos.
EXPLORATION:

Students will participate in the following activities:


Using Drunk buster goggles students will be asked to send a text to group member.
Students will be asked to send a text to a group member while walking rapidly through an obstacle course
of cone.
Using Drunk buster goggles students will be asked to begin preparation for producing a public service
announcement in group work.
Assessment: Students will be assessed by their participation in the drunk buster activities.
EXPLANATION:

Teacher will define public service announcement.


Teacher will explain to students the various types of goggles being used.
Teacher will ask students to consider the effects of the goggles on activities being performed.

ELABORATION:

Students will be asked to create a technology product (power point, brochure, video or other) to allow
students to produce a public service announcement about distracted or drunk driving. Students will create
a video or power point that can serve as a public service announcement about distractions that can hinder
your abilities to drive and perform other activities. Groups will present their public service announcements
to the class.

EVALUATION:

Remember, assessment is part of each stage of the 5E lesson planning process. You will need to assess
each student on their participation and understanding and evaluate how close they have come to meeting
the objectives of the lesson. Create a checklist or rubric to grade the student created technology product,
paying close attention to the objectives of the lesson.

Students will be assessed by a rubric consisting of 20 possible points on their power point presentations.
