Reflective Essay

My growth as a writer came down to doing the research better for my essays. I’m

anything but perfect at researching, but I do understand it better. Last semester for my english

class one of the assignments was an annotated bibliography and a research paper but I felt really

lost that time. I didn't understand it at all and I kept asking questions so that I was able to get it

done. I would ask my peers but even they didn’t know how to explain it or help me. So I had to

figure out all that on my own. But for this class I felt more confident when it came to the

assignment. The instructions were more clear and I understood things better, I knew what was

expected of the assignment. The “Easy Writer” book and the “They Say I Say” book really

helped me. When I purchased them I didn’t think I would need them but I ended up using helpful

information from there.

My attendance for this semester I felt was good. I pay for my classes out of my own

pocket so missing a class to me feels like a loss and it is something I try to avoid. There were

days where I couldn’t make it to class for reasons that I couldn’t control but I would make sure to

communicated with the instructor. But for the most part I would come to class and I would try to

be on time. I don’t like being late to things, whether it be class or my job so I do try to refrain

from that. For my participation I could have done way better. I participated once for a class

discussion and during group discussions I did try to participate as much as I could. But I do know

that my participation was poor this semester.

The skill that I will probably try to apply in my college career that I picked up from this

class will be interacting and participating more during class. I know that I didn’t do a good job of

it for this class but I will try to do better for my next classes. I was a manager at my former job

and I had to deal with a lot of people and a lot of different personalities. At work I actually did

really well when it came to speaking up and doing meetings with the team. But when it comes to

school and in class I tend to have a harder time of it and I believe it's because at work I am

comfortable with what I do and I am an expert at what I do there. In class I get anxious to

participated and it is because I don’t want to sound stupid or that I don’t understand something to

my peers. But being more interactive with people at school is something that I will be working

on for my college career.

I learned that I need to have more confidence in myself in an academic setting. Even

when I feel like I don’t have the right answer because it will help me in the long run. Not only

will it help me in school but it will help me in a professional setting and in my personal life.

Understanding the research paper better will also helped me. As well as the books that were

purchased for English 2010 I will be using it when ever I feel like I need more help for another

class.
