RECENT NEWS
CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle Sponsored Walk on
09 October 2010 was a great success!
Over 70 people were marching to celebrate Mad Heritage & World
Mental Health Day and raise money for CoolTan Arts.
CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle was exploring the past
past, present and
future of “Madness and Contemporary Psychiatric Innovation”
Innovation”.
It was a fundraiser for CoolTan Arts. So far we raised over £2
£2000 –
you can still sponsor our walkers and support CoolTan’s work!
The funds raised through the Largactyl Shuffle Sponsored Walk will
enable us to continue to provide inspirational and creative workshops for people that really need our support
and enable us to move from our current premises. We desperately need a larger and a more suitable space to
support more people in a better environment.

Your donation will make a huge difference!

Five beautifully crafted bio

bio-degradable
degradable sculptures made in CoolTan Arts
workshops were placed along the route. They represented five inspirational
Southwark characters who championed work in the field of mental
m health and
psychiatry
sychiatry. The sculptures
lptures and walk were filmed by CoolTan Arts for a
documentary. Check our website, flickr or facebook for images from the day.

If you have raised sponsorship money, please take it back to CoolTan Arts or
send us a cheque for the amount you raised.

Thanks to the Maudsley Hospital for tables, chairs, free water and the IoP for giving us space to exhibit Peter
Mansfield. Thanks to Liz Ellis at Tate Modern for their support and hospitality. Last but not least, many thanks
to our volunteers who worked hard to researc
research
h and write their own talks on each Scientist/Social Reformer and

Self-Advocacy Training Skills Programme for November / early December

A big thank you to everyone involved in the group's submission of views - themed 'Making
Rights Real' - on Southwark Council's draft Charter of Rights for adult health and social
care. When replies arrive from the Council, they'll be shared, if replies don't appear, they'll
be chased!

Returning to more expected subjects after responding to topical developments in the past month or so,
November sees, amongst others, re-visiting Advance Statements/Crisis Plans, access to benefits, peer
support. Look out for an introduction to advocacy and self-advocacy at the Lorrimore Centre later in the month,
with an intended open event pencilled-in for 2nd December (please check with us, or our publicity) on self- and
peer advocacy, which will coincide with an event introducing the Recovery Star project.

Wednesday mornings from 11am, Thursday afternoons from 2pm at CoolTan Arts unless otherwise
advertised. Keep an eye on the website and mailings.

Self-advocacy skills training can assist in knowing and accessing your rights and getting your voice heard in
many situations.
